The Elyria Pioneers beat the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs 52-20 in week 2 of SWC action. In an exciting dual with back and forth scoring, Elyria had ranked wrestlers in #7 Bennett Wachter at 106, #16 Shamus Fogerty at 113 and #9 Blake Cancel at 138. 106 lbs: Bennett Wachter (ELYRIA) FALL Cassius Braley (OFALLS): Wachter got to work super early and locked up a killer cradle! He is the winner by fall!
113 lbs: Shamus Fogerty (ELYRIA) FALL Dayten Snowberger (OFALLS): Fogerty with ANOTHER quick fall! WOW!
120 lbs: Marlon Charley (ELYRIA) TECH FALL Joseph Dufresne (OFALLS) 18-3: Charley hit a slick takedown making the score 3-0 over Dufresne. Charley could not be stopped on his feet in the 1st period, taking the period 9-2. After some quick scoring, Charley won by technical fall!
126 lbs: Brady Hexter (OFALLS) DEC Nathaniel Sears (ELYRIA) 9-6: Sears and Hexter went at it in the 1st making the score 4-3 in favor of Hexter. The 2nd period started off with Hexter on bottom, and after Sears cut him loose, the score was 5-3 Hexter. A Hexter takedown made the score 8-4 after a Sears ecape. A WILD 3rd period saw Hexter survive Sears 9-6!
132 lbs: Kullen Koos (ELYRIA) FALL Mohammed Alshareefi (OFALLS): Koos with the takedown and nearfall to lead 7-0 at the end of 1. Koos scooped up another takedown and pinned Alshareefi!
138 lbs: Blake Cancel (ELYRIA) FALL Liam McDowell (OFALLS): Cancel with a SLICK ankle pick opened up the scoring to 6-1, Cancel was unstoppable from the top position through 1. But, at the end of the 1st, McDowell opened up with some scoring of his own making it 8-6. Cancel started the 2nd with a BIG body lock into a fall!
144 lbs: Gatlin Hassler (ELYRIA) MAJOR DEC Ryan Roberto (OFALLS) 13-4: Hassler and Roberto were in an absolute dogfight at the beginning of the 1st period, but Hassler still managed to get a takedown. Hassler ended up with a half nelson that turned into 4 more back points making the score 7-0 Hassler at the end of 1. Despite riding out Hassler in the 2nd, Roberto was still down 7-0. Hassler ended up with the major decision in a very exciting 3rd period! 13-4 was the final score.
150 lbs: Zavier Stephens (ELYRIA) FALL Logan Clark (OFALLS): Clark and Stephens both impressed early with high-level scrambling, but Stephens still maintained the lead 6-1 and locked up a cradle to win by fall!
157 lbs: Dylan Hasenhorl (OFALLS) TECH FALL Mathew Whalen (ELYRIA) 19-2: Hasenhorl hit a sick double leg takedown making the score 3-0. Hasenhorl got to WORK in the first period snatching up two more takedowns and nearfall making the score 16-2 at the end of 1. Hasenhorl hit a beautiful double, and won by technical fall.
165 lbs: Terrell Calhoun (ELYRIA) MAJOR DEC Lucas Hewitt (OFALLS) 15-4: Calhoun and Hewitt got off to a nice scramble, but Calhoun snatched up a pair of takedowns, end of 1st period score being 6-1 Calhoun. In a low-scoring 2nd period, Hewitt escaped but Calhoun scooped up a go-behind and made the score 9-2. Calhoun hit two single leg takedowns at the start of 3 and after letting Hewitt escape, Calhoun won the match 15-4.
175 lbs: Gavin Range (OFALLS) FALL Tyrone McCullum Jr. (ELYRIA): Range hit a sweet double leg takedown making our score 3-0, and with a half nelson, got the fall!
190 lbs: Don Johnson (OFALLS) FALL Kemarion Wimberly (ELYRIA): Wimbley had rabbit feet, and got a nice takedown making the score 3-1 after a Johnson escape. JOHNSON WITH A HUGE REVERSAL AND FALL TO WIN!
215 lbs: Xaiden Natal (ELYRIA) MAJOR DEC Henry Wedding (OFALLS) 9-1: Wedding and Natal in a scoreless match through 1. Wedding hit a quick standup to escape but Natal put Wedding on his back from short offense, Wedding had no quit though and gave up surprisingly no nearfall points in an odd exchange. To start the 3rd, Natal got another reversal and 4 back points making the score 9-1 to lock up the major decision for the Pioneers!
285 lbs: Christian Satterfield (ELYRIA) FALL Victory Workman (OFALLS): The heavyweight match saw no scoring in the 1st period. Workman with a tripod to escape in the 2nd period, and the match became 1-0 Workman. Satterfield, though undersized compared to Workman, hit a big cradle to scoop up 4 nearfall! After a half nelson, Satterfield won by fall!
Elyria’s low weights impressed while Olmsted Falls’ upper weights impressed. Elyria, historically one of the best D1 programs in Ohio, is newer to the SWC as they look to keep the train rolling. Falls looks to bounce back against Avon in the new year (January 9th at home) as Elyria will wrestle North Ridgeville in more SWC action on the same night!
