Walsh Ironman Girls Final Results

Here posted are the scores for every final at the Walsh Ironman Girls Tournament.

100 lbs: Makenna Craft (Jackson) DEC Ryleigh Sturgill 9-2 : Kraft scored two takedowns within a matter of a minute, cutting her opponent out both times making the score 6-2. In a high-scoring 1st period, Kraft led 9-2. Sturgill could not keep up with Kraft’s offense, and dropped the match 9-2.

105 lbs: Jaclyn Bouzakis (Wyoming Seminary) DEC Sarissa Tucker (Mountain View) 7-1 : Bouzakis scored two super quick takedowns in the first period making the score 6-1. On her feet, Bouzakis could not be stopped as her double-leg attacks were too much for Tucker. While Tucker put up a great fight, Bouzakis seemed to control every position from neutral to top to bottom and won the match 7-1

110 lbs: Libby Roberts (University) DEC Kayla Moroschan (Chippewa) 4-1 SV : No score through the 1st period, with neither wrestler giving an inch. With 30 seconds to go in the 2nd, Roberts got the escape bringing the score to 1-0 Roberts. Moroschan had an escape of her own at the start of the 3rd, tying our score 1-1. ICE IN HER VEINS ROBERTS WITH THE TAKEDOWN IN OT TO WIN IT!

115 lbs: Marie Sharp (Blair Academy) DEC Harlee Hilier (Loyola Academy) 12-3 : Sharp controlled the entire match, making quick work of Hilier only giving up 1 point through 2 periods. Sharp was able to win by major decision, adding bonus points to her team’s total score.

120 lbs: Angelina Cassioppi (Hononegah) DEC Mackenzi Carter (Olentangy Orange) 7-0 : Cassioppi handled business from the top position and bottom position, not allowing an escape from Carter all match whilst holding onto her 3 point lead through 2 periods and gaining an escape point. Another late takedown from Cassioppi made the final score 7-0.

125 lbs: Milana Borrelli (Venice High School) MAJOR DEC Anna Madi (Brecksville) 11-1 : After a Borelli front-headlock and 1st period rideout, Borelli led Madi 3-0. After Madi chose neutral to start the 2nd, Borelli found an opening for a big hip toss scoring another takedown making it 6-0. In dominant fashion, Borelli won the match 11-1.

130 lbs: Emma Bacon (Wyoming Seminary) DEC Caroline Hilton (Cleveland, TN) 7-4 : Hilton scored a nice takedown from short offense but Bacon was not making it easy. Bacon racked up 3 nearfall points with a killer tilt and tied the match! After a stalling call, Hilton led Bacon 4-3 through the 2nd. After a critical late period takedown, Bacon sealed the match 7-4.

135 lbs: Taina Fernandez (Archbishop Spalding) FALL Corynne McNulty (Blair Academy) : Fernandez showed up with her lunch bucket today, making quick work of her opponent with an arm-bar pin late in the 2nd period. Not just a dub, but a dominant one at that.

140 lbs: Lillian Hendricks (Greeneview) FALL Cara Leng (Marysville) : In a low-scoring match, an early escape in the 3rd period gave Hendricks the lead 1-0. After a takedown with only 40 seconds to go, Hendricks was able to pin Leng late in the 3rd.

145 lbs: Eleanor Dean (Freedom) FALL Gennaveve Matt (Greeneview) : A quick Dean takedown and rideout in the first period made the score 3-0 at the end of 1. In period number 2, Matt rode out Dean but failed to score any 2nd period points, 3-0 Dean at the end of 2. Matt pinned Dean with 0:44 left in the match.

155 lbs: Juliet Alt (Chestnut Ridge) FALL Mariah Earl (Hernando) : Alt got off to a quick start, a 3-point takedown and 4 nearfall points led to her early 7-0 lead at the end of the 1st period. Another 3-point takedown led to Alt upping the score to 10-1 after an Earl escape. Alt pinned Earl with :16 left to go in the 2nd.

170 lbs: Piper Fowler (Cleveland, TN) TECH Millie Azlin (Bixby) 15-0 : Fowler with a HUGE 7-point series to start the match, including a tilt that produced 4 nearfall points. After collecting 4 nearfall then 4 more nearfall, Fowler won by tech against Azlin of Bixby.

190 lbs: Grace Leota (Hernando) DEC Amie Hartman (Mountain Home) 7-0 : An AMAZING big girl scramble led to a potentially dangerous call, but Leota was able to scoop up a takedown early in the 2nd making the score 3-0. A late third period takedown from Leota made the final score 7-0.

235 lbs: Deionna Borders (Berea-Midpark)  DEC Madelin Zunin (Cleveland, TN) 5-0 : Two-time OHSAA state placer Borders found herself in a close match in the 1st period with no score. Borders then got a quick escape and takedown to take a 4-0 lead early in the 2nd period and finished with a rideout. The match was all Borders as she came out with the 5-0 victory!

WHAT. A. TOURNAMENT. In just the 2nd year of the Girls Tournament, the fans were treated to such an amazing display of wrestling. Not a single match was disappointing, congratulations to all the girls and boys who put in so much hard work over a grueling 3-day tournament.
