Crestwood Controls North Olmsted to Win Season Opener 58-38

The Crestwood Lady Red Devils ruined the North Olmsted home opener tonight by defeating the Eagles 58-38 in dominant fashion.  The Red Devils forced the Eagles into committing well over 20 turnovers tonight.  This was a recipe for disaster for North Olmsted to go along with their 14 missed fouls shots as the Eagles went 6 of 20 from the stripe in the loss.

Leading Crestwood tonight was senior Hannah Ward with 21 big points, including 15 in the second half to help Crestwood pull away for good.  They also had nice scoring nights from Abby Guyette with 12 and Becca Brady with 9.  Also scoring 9 was Ava Lincoln while Grace Harper, Liv Martini and Piper Seibold each had 2 while Alyssa Luczywo finished the scoring with a point.

For the Eagles, they were led by Taylor Wengstrom with 14 and Katie Strong with 10.  Shelley Gray had 7 while both Julia Tahsin and Peyton Johnson had 3 each.  Scoring 1 each, was Peyton Johnson and Julianna Demian.

The Lady Red Devils got off to a hot start with an 8-2 lead built off of Eagle turnovers.  It was the same recipe time and time again as the Eagles threw the ball away, and the Red Devils took it the distance for transition points.  Before anyone could blink, Becca Brady nailed a three ball, and just like that it was 17 – 4.  Peyton Johnson hit a three for the Eagle to stop the run, but it was only a matter of time until Crestwood struck for four more to make it 21-7.

A three by Sophia Tahsin was part of a mini 5-0 run from the Eagles to close out the quarter with Crestwood on top, 21-12.  The Eagles kept it going to start the second quarter when Wengstrom nailed a long ball and cut it to 21-15.  Suddenly the Eagles had hope, but it was then that Crestwood went on a 8-3 run as they spread the ball around nicely and cashed in on open shots. They pushed the lead to 29-18 with 3:16 left and expanded it to 35-22 by halftime.

Ward went off for 10 more in the third quarter to increase the lead to 52-32 by the end of the frame, putting it out of reach for good.  North Olmsted plays next Monday as they travel to Brookside, meanwhile Crestwood will look to stay hot as they travel to Cloverleaf December 4th.
