Feister’s 5 TD Power Hoban Past Nordonia 48-13

Barberton, OH: Despite the cold drizzle that fell throughout the game, sophomore running back Brayton Feister was on fire Friday night, finishing with 288 yards and five touchdowns as Hoban (11-2) rolled past Nordonia (10-3) 48-13. Quarterback Trent Hayden was efficient for Hoban, finishing 4-6 passing for 55 yards.

First Half

Hoban received the opening kickoff and it appeared as if they would start the game with a three-and-out. While trying to field the punt, the Nordonia returner muffed the catch, setting Hoban up at the Nordonia 39. Eight plays later, Tylan Boykin took the Wildcat snap 16 yards to put Hoban up 7-0.

After a long drive from Nordonia stalled out at the Hoban 20, the Knights would begin the ensuing possession backed up in their own end. A big completion from Trent Hayden to John Johnson set Hoban up deep in Nordonia territory and, four plays later, Brayton Feister plowed in from two yards out to make it 14-0 Hoban late in the first.

A very short punt on the next Nordonia possession gave Hoban great field position at the Nordonia 32. Three straight handoffs to Feister covered the distance, including a seven-yard run that put Hoban up 20-0 after a missed extra point.

With their backs against the wall early, Nordonia would respond. Starting from their 26, the Knights went 74 yards in seven plays, getting into the end zone on a seven yard run from Liam Kountz to make it 20-6 Hoban following a failed two-point conversion. On the ensuing kickoff, Nordonia recovered an onside kick but went three-and-out.

Hoban countered with a long drive of their own, going 76 yards in 11 plays capped off by a four-yard run from Feister, his third touchdown of the half that made the score 27-6.

Nordonia would make one last push before the half but a fourth down pass fell incomplete and Hoban took a 27-6 lead into the break.

Second Half

Nordonia would receive the second half kickoff but they would not have the ball for long. On the fourth play of their drive. quarterback Ben Chesser was picked off by Lawrence Cherry who rumbled 55 yards for a Hoban touchdown, extending their lead to 34-6 early in the third.

Needing a big drive to try and keep things close, Nordonia would put together a 12-play 70 yard drive capped off by nine-yard touchdown pass from Chesser to Khylan Osbey, drawing the men in green closer at 34-13.

Beginning their next drive at their own 22, Hoban marched 78 yards in just five plays and got back on the scoreboard thanks to a 36-yard run from Feister, extending the lead to 41-13.

After both teams traded punts, Hoban would begin their next drive at their 31. It only took one play to cover the distance as Feister stiff armed two defenders to the turf en route to a 69-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 48-13 and starting the running clock.

Nordonia would get the ball one last time but were unable to make much progress. With just over four minutes remaining, the Hoban backups picked up a couple of first downs and milked the rest of the clock, sealing a 48-13 victory for the Knights.

Keys to the Game

From the opening kickoff, Hoban had a gameplan and they stuck to it, racking up over 300 yards rushing in the contest. Brayton Fesiter carried the ball 26 times for the Knights and 11 of those went for 10+ yards, including touchdown runs of 36 and 69. If you want a chance to beat Hoban, you need to be able to slow the sophomore sensation and that was not in the cards for Nordonia.

Next Week

Hoban will have revenge on their minds next week as they take on Walsh Jesuit (13-0) in the Region 5 championship. The Warriors advanced to the regional championship with a 42-28 victory over Austintown Fitch. Walsh defeated Hoban 19-14 at home in Week 7.
