Perry beats Glen Oak on Senior Night

In a game that was honestly closer than it should have been, the Perry Panthers beat the GlenOak Golden Eagles 38-21.  Perry’s offense rushed for 358 yards and 5 touchdowns while controlling the clock.  With Perry’s offense controlling the clock, GlenOak could not find any rhythm on offense as they failed to score an offensive touchdown.  If it were not for a few defensive and special teams plays the Eagles would have been shut out.

On the first drive of the game Panther running back Caelob Hundley scored on a 2 yard touchdown run to put the Panthers up 7-0 early.  However, Skyland King took the following kickoff back 98 yards for a touchdown tying the game at 7.  A lack of offense resulted in the first quarter ending with the score 7-7 and the Eagles offense did not get on the field.

Caelob Hundley would score another goal line touchdown to put Perry up 14-7 early in the second quarter.  There was little offense for Glen Oak in the first half as they only had 2 possessions, both ending in punts.  However, Perry managed to move the ball slowly and steadily throughout the first half.  This eventually led to Perry’s kicker Brock Huggins making a 45 yard field goal to end the half with the Panthers leading 17-7.

Javi’ion McClendon returned the opening kickoff of the second half 97 yards for a GlenOak touchdown to make the score 17-14 with Perry leading.  The Panthers would answer with a 30 yard touchdown run by Kyson Walker to extend the Panthers lead to 24-14.  The Eagles defense would later score a touchdown on a 43 yard scoop and score making the score 24-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Panther running back Conner Shephard scored on a 5 yard touchdown run to put Perry up 31-21 in the fourth quarter.  After the Eagles turned the ball over on downs late in the fourth Shephard scored his second touchdown on a 2 yard run putting the Panthers up 38-21.  This was the nail in the coffin as GlenOak could not move the ball effectively on offense and could not stop the run on defense.  In a rather impressive performance the Perry Panthers won 38-21.
