Holy Name Defeats Padua 13-7 In Parma Holy War

Friday night was the anticipated Parma Holy War between the Holy Name Green Waves and the Padua Bruins, in which the Green Waves defeated the Bruins by a final score of 13-7.

First Quarter

The first quarter was a very long quarter of football; flags were flying all over the field. Both teams had a difficult time scoring until a blocked punt by the Bruins was picked up and taken to the end zone by Brandon Homady, which put the Bruins up 7-3 at the end of the first quarter after the Green Wave settled for a field goal.

Second Quarter

The tide would start to turn, however, as the Bruins’ offense began to struggle, and eventually, quarterback Connor Jamison threw to #Xavier Rodriguez for a touchdown, putting the Green Waves up 10-7. After an interception by Aiden Butler, the Green Wave went into the half with the lead.

Third Quarter

The third quarter was a defensive quarter, to say the least. Each team struggled to score as both sides went three and out and dealt with penalties. That is until Xavier Rodriguez broke a huge run and got the Green Wave into field goal range, where kicker Chase Jozity nailed it for his second of the game and put the Green Wave up 13-7.

Fourth Quarter

The Bruins couldn’t get much going all game, but when they finally started to generate some offense, Xavier Rodriguez came through with a big interception midway through the fourth. Both teams struggled to score, and eventually, it was left to the Bruins to make a drive downfield and score for the win. After struggling through most of the game, Bruins quarterback Nick Barker showed incredible poise as he delivered a bomb to Brady Devore, who made an outstanding grab to put the Bruins into the red zone with just under two minutes left on the clock. After multiple first downs, it came down to one play: with seven seconds left, Barker’s pass was incomplete, and the Green Wave held on to celebrate a huge road win.

Players of the Game

The player of the game for Holy Name was Xavier Rodriguez, as he had a huge interception along with a receiving touchdown. He also carried a lot of the offensive load with his legs, rushing for around 70 yards with about 12 or more carries. The Bruins’ player of the game was Brandon Homady, as he was a staple for the defense, recording multiple tackles, a blocked punt touchdown, and a sack to go along with it.
