by BEREA,OH – When Brandon White went down for the season, the St. Ed’s Eagles needed that next big back to step up, and after tonight it is clear that young mans name is Bradley Eaton. The flourishing Eagle Eaton went off for 157 rushing yards, 42 receiving yards and 3 total touchdowns in the Eagles 28-6 win over the Wildcats.
The Eagles have lacked that running game in recent weeks, and made it a focus tonight. Their passing game wasn’t far behind either as Thomas Csanyi looked strong with 205 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. 2 of them to Eaton and 1 to the always steady Zach Hackleman who finished with 4 catches, 85 yards and a touchdown.
The lone source of offense tonight for the Wildcats was Minnesota recruit Grant Washington who had 97 yards on 19 carries. Backup quarterback Dane Donovan was held to 38 yards on 5 of 14 passing. He did have a touchdown pass to Trey Haddad.
The Eagles put together a couple of first downs with their run game to start the game by advancing the ball to midfield. From there, a Bradley Eaton catch out of the backfield moved it past midfield. The Eagles just kept chipping away at what ended up being a 13 play, 86-yard drive that soaked up 4:10 off the clock while racking up 6 first downs. It paid off with a Csanyi to Eaton touchdown pass from 17 yards on the methodical drive to hand the Eagles an early 7-0 lead.
The Wildcats responded right away with big runs from Grant Washington moving the ball to the Eagles 30 in no time. The drive stalled after a sack however, and the Wildcats were forced to punt. A acrobatic 33 yard catch by Saffold got the Eagles cooking right away. A 19-yard rush by Eaton on the next play kept the chains moving. A few seconds after that it was Eaton catching his second touchdown pass of the game, to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead with 2:16 left in the first.
After a Kellen Moyer missed field goal attempt, the second quarter went scoreless and the game entered the half with the Eagles till up, 14-0. It was a rough first half for Dane Donovan who only had 3 completions, for 13 total yards.
After the Wildcats stopped the Eagles from scoring for a fifth straight time, they blocked a punt which gave them the ball at the 30-yard line of the Green and Yellow midway through the third quarter. This gave the Wildcats their first real scoring threat of the game. A few plays later the Wildcats cashed it in with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Trey Haddad from Dane Donovan. The extra point was missed however, and the game remained 14-6 Eagles with 3:42 left to play in the third.
The Eagles wasted no time answering, with a 60-yard touchdown run up the gut from Bradley Eaton. He broke the initial hole and never looked back. A 1 play, 60-yard drive, and just like that, it was 21-6 Eagles with 3:22 to play in the third.
The Eagles went on to win 28-6 and will now get a bit of rest before hosting Clarkson North out of Toronto next Saturday. The Wildcats will look to bounce back next week as they host Moeller.
