AKRON, OH- Archbishop Hoban (4-1) racked up over 250 yards rushing in a 45-14 running clock victory over St. Ignatius. The Wildcats tied the game up at 7-7 late in the first, but on the very next, play junior Elbert “Roc” Hill IV took a pitch 75 yards around the right side and the Knights never looked back. Sophomore Brayton Feister led the way offensively with 160 yards rushing and three touchdowns, while senior quarterback Ethan Roksandich added another 111 yards and a score on the ground.

First Half

The game started with both teams trading punts on their opening possessions. When the Knights’ offense took the field a second time, they wasted no time making their impact felt.  Their first three plays moved the ball near midfield and on the fourth play, Feister took the handoff and busted through the defense for a 53-yard touchdown, putting Hoban up 7-0.

Ignatius responded with a big drive of their own, putting together an eight-play, 81-yard drive that was capped off by a one-yard plunge from Owen Colwell to tie things at 7-7. The ensuing kickoff sailed into the end zone and one play later, Hill took a pitch around the right side and sprinted down the field for an 80-yard score, putting the Knights back on top 14-7.

Following a three-and-out from the Wildcats, the Knights put together a long drive of their own, taking eight plays to cover 60 yards, finding the end zone yet again, this time a one-yard plunge from Roksandich to extend the lead to 21-7.

Hoban was not done scoring yet, as they would find paydirt again thanks to Feister, an 11-yard run that put the Knights up 28-7 with just over five minutes remaining. That score would hold to the halftime break.

Second Half

Despite trailing by three scores, the Ignatius offense came out of the half hot. On 2nd & 2 from the Hoban 48-yard line, senior running back Grant Washington took the hand-off and sliced through the defense for a long touchdown, drawing the Wildcats closer at 28-14. Just like they did in the first quarter, Hoban answered right away. Starting on their 20, the Knights ran the ball seven straight times to cover the entire field, getting on the scoreboard on Feister’s third touchdown of the game, this time from eight yards out to make it 35-14.

With the clock just under three minutes in the third, junior Trent Hayden found Hill on a swing pass that he took 75 yards for another Hoban score, extending the lead to 42-14.

In the fourth quarter, the Knights would put together one last impressive drive, going ten plays and extending their lead to 45-14 on a 29-yard field goal from Jeremy Hammel. With a running clock now in effect, time would run out on the Wildcats, giving Hoban a 45-14 win.

Keys to the Game

The Knights dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, creating holes for their backs on offense and wreaking havoc on defense. Sophomore Brayton Feister carried the ball 16 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Senior quarterback Ethan Roksandich made his presence felt as well, adding 111 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

Both times that the Wildcats got on the scoreboard, Hoban answered right away making a comeback attempt even more difficult. After starting quarterback Daniel Chalhoub left the game with an injury, sophomore Dane Donovan stepped in and played decently, rushing for 57 yards on eight carries.

Next Week

St. Ignatius will look to get back into the win column next week but it won’t be easy, as the Wildcats host Division III powerhouse Toledo Central Catholic (4-1). The Fighting Irish are coming off a 41-6 road victory over De La Salle (MI) in Week 5.

Hoban will look to keep the good times rolling next week as they host Mt. Vernon (1-2) from Illinois.
