The Field Falcons lost for the first time this season against the Norton Panthers on a night where the Falcons could not move the ball. Norton’s strong defense helped them to a 28-7 victory over the Falcons on Field’s home turf. Field has relied on their run game all season and Norton’s defense held running backs Drexal Mcamis and Victor Brown to just 83 rushing yards. To make matters worse for the Falcons offense, quarterback Peyton Anderson had trouble handling the snap under center with 6 fumbles throughout the game. On the other side of the ball, Norton slowly but surely moved the ball down field scoring on almost every drive.
Early in the game a bad punt by Field was returned to the field 11 yard line by Norton’s Buddy Willig. This great field position led to a 3 yard touchdown run by Marcus Brown to put the Panthers up 7-0. Due to a lack of offense by Field, the first quarter ended with Norton leading 7-0.
In the second quarter a 37-yard pass from Buddy Willig to Jason Beverly set up a 13-yard touchdown run by Beverly. Late in the first half Field quarterback Peyton Anderson threw an interception to Norton’s Aiden Williams. Norton would fail to score again making the halftime score 14-0 with Norton leading.
Field finally showed signs of life as Drexal Mcamis scored on a 4-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the second half to make the score 14-7 with Norton leading. However, on Norton’s first play of their next drive Buddy Willig scored on a 80 yard touchdown run to put Norton up 21-7 in the third quarter. More good defense would allow the third quarter to end with Norton leading 21-7.
In the fourth quarter Buddy Willig scored again on a 2-yard touchdown run to put Norton up 28-7. As Field started to get desperate Peyton Anderson threw his second interception of the game. After the interception Norton would run some clock and Field would fail to score again. The Falcons lost for the first time this season with a final score of 28-7.
