Music is one of my favorite things that has ever existed. It helps my brain calm whenever I’m stressed and frees me from boredom at other times. Recently, I have been on my own personal fitness journey. I have always been a really skinny kid throughout my whole life, from junior high into high school and even during the one year of college I completed.
Over the past seven months, I have really started to take my fitness seriously and have been working my butt off in the gym, setting goals and trying to achieve said goals. Music has been a great way for me to stay consistent, as it helps me push through tough workouts (especially leg day). Obviously, the kind of music you listen to will be different from mine, but here are just a few songs I suggest you add when you want to push through your limits.
0 to 100/The Catch Up – Drake
Drake is my personal favorite artist if I was forced to pick one right now. For the sake of repetitive use, I’ll just call this song “0 to 100.” This has got to be in my top five favorite songs to listen to in the gym. The first half of it is very aggressive, and the beat is one of my favorite beats of all time. It pumps me up and makes me feel like I can run through a wall. The song makes me feel as if I’m ready to hit a new height in my lifts whenever I’m bumping it in the gym. This list will more than likely contain a few more Drake songs, just a warning for the Drake haters that are reading this.
I Walk Alone – Saliva/WWE
This one is for my fellow WWE fans, and I know you all agree with me on this one. For those of you looking for a rock song to fuel your grueling leg session, look no further than the animal, Dave Batista’s WWE theme song. From the insane vocals to the electric guitar in the background, this song truly is one of the best WWE themes of all time. I enjoy listening to this when I need to murder my quads on the leg press machines. I feel like I harness the strength of Batista for the three minutes this song is gracing my ears.
KOODA – 6ix9ine
This one is going to be controversial, but hey, back in 2017, Tekashi 6ix9ine was making bangers—don’t judge. Were his songs incredibly violent and talking about doing terrible things? Of course they were, but you can’t tell me you weren’t listening to “KOODA” and bobbing your head. The way he comes in on the beat with that aggressive rap tone and the beat is fire. The theme with the songs on this list is that they are all designed to get you fired up for your lifts, making them seem easier. This song surely does it for me, though I understand if it won’t for others; it is a bit graphic.
Misery Business – Paramore
Of course, I had to add a Paramore song to this list—who doesn’t love Paramore? If you said to yourself that you don’t, then you’re lying. Anyway, “Misery Business” is my favorite song from the band, and it really gives me the motivation to just get into the gym. The guitar in the background paired with the drums and the vocals of their lead singer, Hayley Williams, is electrifying. When the chorus hits, I feel like I can bench two tons, chest press one thousand pounds, and knock out Jon Jones! Well, maybe not that last part, but you get the point I’m making. Add it to your playlist and see if it fits you.
Headlines – Drake
Now for the greasiest Drake song of all time, so you know I had to include it on my list. This song differs from the previous ones I have listed in that it is not really a rock-heavy song or one that will pump you up, at least not to others. I personally love this song, and it pumps me up every time I hear it. It helps me lock into the workout I am doing; honestly, it gives me a third lung, I feel. “Headlines” is my favorite Drake song and probably in my top five favorite songs of all time, so I definitely had to include this on my list.
Conclusion
Overall, these are just my suggestions. Some of you—scratch that, most of you—will most likely add all five of these songs to your gym playlist, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I recommend whoever is reading this to at least give some of these songs a try; it may make your lift just a bit more enjoyable.
