AEW Collision was live on TNT tonight and went head to head with a UFC Fight Night. Let’s take a look at how the show did.
Darby Allin & Hologram defeated The Premier Athletes (Josh Woods & Tony Nese) (w/Mark Sterling & Ariya Daivari)
Result – Darby Allin and Hologram win by pin.
Take-A-Way – A pretty good match with plenty of action to open the card. A smart move to keep Darby as hot as possible heading into Wembley.
Grade – B
Texas Bull Rope Match – Thunder Rosa vs Deonna Purrazzo
Thunder Rosa defeated Deonna Purrazzo
Take-A-Way – This match was bloody but brilliant. It is crazy to think this was second and not the main event of the night. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, both Rosa and Purrazzo are two of the best in the business, and the two best female wrestlers AEW has. Someone needs to wake up there and realize this! Burying them on the B show, is a terrible idea.
Grade – A+
FTR vs The Outrunners
FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) defeated The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd)
Take-A-Way – I love this Outrunners Gimmick, it screams 1980’s and 1990’s and is a nice throwback for a division that sorely needs the help. Despite the loss, they went two full segments with the self-professed (they’re not ) best tag team in the world.
Grade – B
Rush vs Preston Vance
Rush defeated Preston Vance
Take-A-Way – After card needs an excuse to check out what is going with the other stations, and also grab some snacks. This was it. Pointless match with little interest from anyone. The entire point of the match was Don Callis to push Rush harder, other then that, no one cared.
Grade – D
Oh by the way, in case you live under a rock, we were all reminded that MJF will take on Will Ospreay at All In while Jack Perry and Darby Allin will collide as well. Each with a pretty cool hype video, I must admit.
Open Challenge Eliminator Match – Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana) vs. Tomohiro Ishii
Swerve Strickland defeats Tomohiro
Take-A-Way – The entire concept of having a eliminator match involving the champion is beyond dumb. Swerve looked awful as it took him nearly 25 minutes to defeat a guy no one knows or cares about. This entire run by Swerve continues to be a total joke. AEW has butchered it!
Grade – D
Top Flight and MXM have an exchange backstage that will lead to a match on next weeks episode.
Hikaru Shida vs Aleah James
Hikaru Shida defeats James in under 3 minutes for win 76 in her AEW career.
Take-A-Away – Speaking of women who belong at the top of the card, and not hidden on Collision, Shida joins Rosa and Purrazzo at the top of this list. She was even able to make a match with James watchable. Shida deserves better, she just does.
Grade – B
House of Black vs The Bang Bang Gang to take with special guest referee Christian Cage.
Result – Double count out
Take-A-Way – A great match with the perfect ending of having the Cage led squad beat down both heel teams afterwards. A three teams are, “heels”, but suddenly, we have a reason to hate the Patriarchy the most out of the 3. A great move by the creative team. This one was fun!
Also, considering there was less then 500 people in their dismal crowd, you could hear some little kid yell out, “Hey Buddy, I think your wife ( Rhea Ripley ) is hot! ” I agree son, I agree….
