Great Northern Macy’s to Close for Good

Employees of Macy’s Great Northern were told the bad news earlier this week, and that news was that their location will be closing for good in January of 2025.  A source close to the situation revealed this,  “With all the talk of businesses closing, I just wanted to make sure you knew that Macy’s Great Northern Mall is definitely closing at the end of January. I work there and they told us last week. They are trying to keep it under wraps for now, but it’s been talked about. They still will have new merchandise for Xmas but then it’s over.”

The reason given to employees for closing was too much needed for repairs on the building. There were investors interested in it last year but it fell apart apparently.

They are opening a version of Macy’s backstage at Crocker in the old Bed, Bath and Beyond space.  Making matters worse, employees were told they can’t transfer there but they can go to University or Strongsville.

Making matters just a bit puzzling is despite the economy, the store is still profitable and fulfills a ton of online orders. Foot traffic is down however.

  1. How sad to see Macy’s closing. Makes me sick that people buy all this stuff on line anymore and don’t enjoy going to a store to shop and actually see and feel what they are buying. Instead they return half of it and have to drive to a place where they take it back, spend their gas and TIME standing in line, doing all this which amounts to more than just driving to the store, seeing what you buy and not having to return anything. Plus you get better and cheaper products at the store. What a sick world we have anymore. Well, as far as I’m concerned, they don’t know what they are missing. I will certainly miss our Macy’s but will just go to another one even though it’s not close to where I live.

    1. I grew up going to Great Northern Mall and May Company (Macy’s now ) in the seventies and having diner in the restaurant over looking the in side of the mall as a young child and getting school clothes there and Christmas was especially was a wonderful time with the decorations. 😭Breaks my heart a childhood memories will be gone ,at one time that store was the busiest May Company in the United States . Sorry to say this most likely will doom the mall bringing the mall to fall like many malls across the U.S have 😤
