BEREA, OHIO – It was a wet and wild weekend in Berea as the Titans hosted the Avon Lake Shoremen. In the end, like it always does, the cream rose to the top as the Shoremen handled the Titans 35-0 in a game that two took nights to play.

It was a big game for Avon Lake quarterback Michael Corbo who carved up the Titan defense with his legs and arm. He finished with 112 yards on 8 carries, scoring on touchdown runs of 30 and 9 yards. He also threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

It was a tough outing for Berea-Midpark quarterback Luke Devins who compiled 136 yards on 15 of 27 passing, but was picked off four times and sacked 3 times. His top target was DeAngelo Borders who caught 6 passes for 64 yards.

The Titans hung tough in the first half and kept it close, thanks to forcing multiple three and outs on defense. They also picked Michael Corbo off and showed a lot of relentless aggression to keep it a game for as long as they could.

Sadly, for the Titans, they also shot themselves in the foot with multiple times by killing themselves on promising drives with their own turnovers and dropped passes. Every time in the first half the Titans showed life, even a tiny spark, they immediately shot themselves in the foot.

Luke Devins was sacked multiple times in the first half and picked off twice because of constant Avon Lake pressure. Devins had little to no time to work and the Shoremen defense took full advantage of it.

Avon Lake wasted no time scoring and showing their dominance on offense. On only their third play from scrimmage, it was Michael Corbo hitting Nathan Sidowloski on a slant that he took 33 yards to the house.

Berea-Midpark, tried as they might, but simply couldn’t score to even the contest. Avon Lake would eventually expand the lead to 14-0 on a beautiful play action fake by Corbo, that he sped 30 yards ahead for a touchdown.

The second quarter was loaded with 3 turnovers on both sides of the ball in some very sloppy play. Then the rains came, and didn’t stop. The game would be delayed at the half, with the second half starting Saturday night.

Upon continuing the game in the third quarter the Shoremen picked up where they left off the night before. Corbo and the boys wasted no time marching right down the field like a hot knife through butter.

It was Corbo again running the play that the Titans couldn’t stop as it was the play action fake quarterback keeper. He rumbled in for the 9 yard touchdown run to extend it to 21-0.

The Titans first drive would end in an interception, giving the Shoremen a short field to work with. It wouldn’t be much longer that Griffin Lidyard pounded his way in from a yard out, to make it 28-0 for Avon Lake.

Avon Lake would force a Titan three and out to go back to work. Corbo continued his big night, this time through the air with a 54-yard touchdown strike to Michael Stuewe. At 35-0, the running clock began as fans and alumni started to head for the exits.

The next Titan drive would result in the fourth interception of Luke Devins of the game. This time however the Shoremen couldn’t convert it into points after an excellent goal line stand for the Titans. The game would end shortly after, 35-0.
