The Rocky River Pirates are good, that is not news, but what they did tonight went beyond being good, they played liked champions. Shockingly down 2-1 to the scrappy crosstown rival Westlake Lady Demons after one, the Pirates snapped out of it in the second and never looked back on their way to a dominant 17-5 win.
Elle Mocho had a night for the ages with 5 total goals, including 3 in the closing minutes of the third quarter to put the game away for good. Alexis Tisler was sharp as ever with 3 more goals as well. She wasn’t the only River player to capture a 3 goal Hat Trick as Grace Dewitt and Mackenzie Russell also had them as well. Kaitlyn Byrne had her goals back to back in the second to open up the Pirate lead. Also scoring for the Pirates was Reagan Connelly with a goal.
Leading the way for the Westlake Demons was the dynamic Lucy Rocco with 2 goals while Megan Klima, Finley Carlson and Lydia Tymoszczuk each hone one.
After Elle Mocho connected on a shot following a Grace Dewitt pass to give the Pirates an early 1-0 lead, the Demons bounced back a few minutes later on a Megan Klima unassisted goal. The Klima goal for the Demons knotted the game up at 1, with 5:42 to play in the first. Westlake wasn’t done making waves as Finley Carlos blasted a free possession goal with 47 seconds left in the first, to hand the Demons the lead after one quarter of action.
River bounced back two and a half minutes into the second quarter when Grace Dewitt connected with a free possession goal. Less than a minute later, River retook the lead when Byrne scored to make it 3-2 and place the Pirates back on top. A minute later it was Byrne yet again, this time improving the lead to 4-2 as the Pirates scored three times in 5 minutes to take a two-goal lead. They weren’t done yet as on the very next possession as Connelly was the next score after receiving a pass from Tisler.
After an Alexis Tisler goal made it 6-2, back to back Lucay Rocco goals cut into the River lead and made it tighter once again at 6-4.
After seeing their lead cut in half to end the first half, the Pirates began the third quarter blazing when Mackenzie Russell got them going early with a goal. Then, it was Dewitt expanding it to 8-4. However right after that, Dewitt Picked up a yellow, forcing the Pirates to play a girl down for two minutes. The Demons wasted no time cashing in on the power play goal as Lydia Tymoszczuk connected on a free possession goal.
After seeing their lead cut to 3 at 8-5, the Pirates bounced right back with a quick goal from Mackenzie Russell to extend the lead back to 4. Seconds after that, it was Grace Dewitt with an unassisted Hat Trick goal to widen the River advantage to 10-5.
The Pirates weren’t through scoring, as a possession later it was Elle Mocho cashing in a pass from Alexis Tisler to see the Pirates move up 11-5. The Pirates took a 13-5 lead into the fourth after another goal from Elle Mocho and then yet another Mocho goal with 1 second left on the clock. It was 3 straight from Mocho to close out the third 13-5.
The Pirates added two more goals by Alexis Tisler, one more from Mocho and one more from Mackenzie Russell to roll away with the 17-5 victory.
