Hudson, Ohio – The Hudson Explorers defeated the visiting Rocky River Pirates, 13-5, on Tuesday night at Hudson Memorial Stadium.

Grace Dewitt put Rocky River ahead, 1-0, at the 7:59 mark of the first quarter. Hudson evened things up when junior Lexie St. Pierre found the back of the next at the 2:53 mark.

The two teams went into the half deadlocked at 3, as defense was the name of the game. Ava Kuss gave the Explorers the lead at the 4:27 mark of the second quarter. However, Rocky River got a response from Grace Dewitt with 2:01 left to even the score.

The tie didn’t last long, as Hudson regained the lead following a goal from junior Mackie Sticker 24 seconds later. Once again, the Pirates responded, as Grace Dewitt found the back of the net with 53 seconds left to re-tie the score.

The Hudson offense came into Tuesday night’s game averaging 15.3 goals a game, also having scored in double digits six straight games. They would break through in the third quarter, scoring five goals to take an 8-3 lead. Senior Ava Kuss gave the Explorers the lead just over a minute in with her second goal of the game. Renee Morgan added a pair of goals of her own, and Audra Lozina and Mackie Stickler each scored.

Junior Grace Dewitt scored her fourth goal of the game in the beginning of the fourth quarter, cutting the Rocky River deficit to 9-4. Hudson would outscore the Pirates, 4-1, the rest of the way, thanks to goals from Ava Kus, Audra Lozina, Lexi St. Pierre, and Lanie Lewis.

Rocky River got a goal from Alexis Tischler with 2:06 to play.

Hudson improves to 11-2, securing their fourth straight win. They finish the week with a trip to Magnificat on Thursday, May 2nd, and host Solon on Saturday, May 4th.

Rocky River, now 12-2, travels to North Canton Hoover on Friday, May 3rd.
