The 2019 Patriots football team opened the season with a 35-0 win over the John Hay Hornets. The mixture of veteran players and first year starters executed the wing T offense to perfection.
Michael Pappas led the rushing attack (92 yards ) scoring three touchdowns. Kentrel Marks (59 yards ) added a score on offense along with opening the scoring recovering a fumbled snap for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Patriots a 7-0 lead.
Shanchez Perry (41 yards), Bobby Benak (41 yards), Anthony Janowski (19 yards), and Jalen Robinson (27 yards) also contributed to the running attack that totaled 292 yards on 39 carries. Zach Ansboro showed nice touch and some zip on his passes throwing for 38 yards.
Defensively the Patriots defensive line took control early and limited John Hay to under 100 yards in the first half. Isaiah Kammer, Ricky Linville, Julius Sebille, Joshua Jones, and Max Dieye all controlled the line enabling the linebackers Bobby Benak , Werner Scheffler, and Anthony Janowski to fill the hole and limit the big plays.
Solid coverage by Antwan Torres, Shanchez Perry, Jalen Robinson, and Kentrel Marks shut down the Hornets passing attack.
Coach Deangelis new this would be tough game. “John Hay is well coached and very physical. Their offensive is similar to ours. It’s hard to defend.
Our kids followed the game plan and executed in critical moments.” The Patriots (1-0) travel to Rocky River (1-0) next Friday
