From the Classic in the Country to the Finals in Dayton, the Olmsted Falls Lady Bulldogs had a story to finish, and they did just that! On Saturday night they captured the OHSAA Div 1 State Championship with a thrilling 52-45 victory over Springboro.
When the last members of the once Sensational Seven ( Mia Kalich, Paige Kohler, Lauren Galaska, Grace Simon, Alison Milligan, Sarah Glover and Lauren Noernberg) graduated last year after the Division One championship game loss, a lot of local people ( not me ) made the foolish assumption that the Bulldogs would have a down year.
Foolish, is right! Perhaps they didn’t count on the rise of Danielle Cameron who not only showed she was a sharpshooter, but could play shut down defense as well. The incredible growth from Jesse Simon, Maddie Cerovac, Avery DeLisio, Emily Scina and Jessica Wolanin just to name a few. Those names were part of priors years success, and had the leadership ability to help the Bulldogs finish the story!
You cannot count out a coach like Jordan Eaton. He has a built a system and more importantly, a CULTURE that works! Girls’ basketball in this area is notorious for drama, and the Bulldogs are one program that avoids it every single year! That is a credit to coach Jordan Eaton, AD Robert Coxon and principal Leo Spagnola.
Folks, face reality, High School Girls basketball is not about AAU, far from it. It is about the work those girls put in before school, after school and sometimes during school, to get better. From the class room, to the weight room, to the bus trips, every ounce is put forth to get better.
I’ll say it again and I will close it out with this. From the third grade on, in mini travel leagues that Olmsted Falls girls play in, they run out and take the court screaming, building their excitement for the game, the exact same way the varsity girls do it. This is the culture, this is winning, this is FINISHING THE STORY!
From everyone at Kee On Sports, CONGRATS Lady Bulldogs and thank you for years of memories, amazing basketball and proving the hardwork, staying humble and being a teammate first, pays off!
