CLEVELAND, OH – The second game of the MAC tournament was a bout between the fourth seed Central Michigan Chippewas and the 5th seed Bowling Green Falcons for the right to play Kent State after they pulled off an upset to go to the Semifinal of the bracket.

It would be the 5th seed Bowling Green Falcons who got the best of the Chippewas with a score of 66 to 56. The size of Bowling Green and the officiant scoring performance from Trey Thomas was enough to get the Falcons a win in the quarter final.

This contest went exactly as expected as both teams played it close for the first half. The previous matchups between the two ended in overtime. These two teams seem like a mismatch in terms of play styles and size.

Bowling Green got the first points of the game due to the height and size from the 7’0 senior Jason Spurgin. That physical style was also carried by Rashaun Agee who has a 6’8 frame at the weight of 225. Needless to say, this Falcons team is built to play in the low block.

This physical style of play was at a disadvantage due to the guard play from the Chips. Both teams utilized their advent for the first half a play, the half ended in a two point lead in favor of the Chips. The second half told a different story for both sides.

Trey Thomas, a senior guard for the Falcons led his squad in a big way in the second half with 20 points, he hit four threes and went 6 for 6 from the charity stripe. A big three at the end and a handful of free throws at the end were enough to pad his stats and stamp his teams ticket to the Semifinal.

The Falcons now have a realistic chance of making it to the final as they have the longest tournament drought in the MAC dating back to the 60s. It will not be an easy matchup for the Falcons as the Flashes played well against the Rockets, they intentions of defending their MAC title and punching their ticket back to the big dance. That game will take place at 5:00 on Friday at Rocket Mortgage in Cleveland, Ohio.
