The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) College in a Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic doubleheader by scores of 6-2 and 5-2 at Terry Park Sports Complex to conclude its annual spring break trip.
Game 1 – 7 innings
Scoring Plays
- Bottom 2nd – Sophomore left fielder Trent Bucy (Eastlake/Eastlake North) picked up the first of his three RBI with a single to right
- Bottom 4th – Junior left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) gave BW the lead with a suicide squeeze
- Bottom 5th – Bucy singled up the middle to add two more runs to the Yellow Jackets’ lead
- Bottom 5th – Marousek doubled down the leftfield line for two more RBI
At the Plate
- Bucy and Marousek powered the offense as they each went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two steals
- Sophomore second baseman Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) went 1-for-1 with a single and two walks scoring two of BW’s six runs
- Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and junior shortstop Noah English (Perrysburg) each also added a hit, a run, and a stolen base
On the Mound
- Senior right-hander Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.) returned to form by striking out eight and allowing two runs on six hits in four and a third innings pitched
- Freshman right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) earned his second save of the trip and the season after throwing a perfect 2.1 innings with two strikeouts

Scoring Plays
- Top 4th – Freshman catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) started his big day with an RBI single
- Top 8th – English got the comeback started after driving in a run thanks to a Diplomats’ error
- Top 8th – Fixx gave the Brown and Gold the lead with another single
- Top 8th – Marousek collected his second two-run double of the day
At the Plate
- Junior second baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) had a game-high four hits including two singles and two doubles
- Fixx finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored
- Junior outfielder Brandon Gelpi (Monroeville, Pa./Central Catholic) and Marousek each added two hits as well
On the Mound
- Senior right-hander Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla/Barron Collier) got the start allowing only one earned run on seven hits and punching out six in five innings of work
- Senior right-hander Matt Sabin (Mentor) stayed hot with only one hit allowed and four strikeouts in two innings to earn him the win
- Junior right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) picked up his second save of the season after throwing two perfect innings with three strikeouts
