Berea, Ohio – For the first time in school history, the Elyria Pioneers stand atop the Southwest Conference in basketball.
The Pioneers took the lead in the second half and held it from there to defeat host Berea-Midpark, 81-72 on Friday night in the regular season finale for both teams.
Four Pioneer players finished in double figures, led by sophomore guard Jermiah Daniels with 18. Junior guard Jayden Crutcher followed with 16, Darrion Crawford 12, and Taylor Blanton ten.
Elyria finishes at 15-7 overall and 11-3 in the SWC. They will host the winner of Stow-Munroe Falls/North Ridgeville in the Twinsburg District sectional final on Friday, March 1st.
Berea-Midpark finishes at 16-6 overall and 10-4 in the SWC. They host Westlake on Wednesday, February 28th, to open up Lakewood District tournament play. The winner will face Wadsworth on Saturday, March 2nd. The Titans were led by senior guard Austin Clay, who finished with 22 points. Following him were junior Masyn Zahursky with 17, and freshman Nick Reece with ten.
