Magnificat traveled to Parma tonight where they took on and defeated the Padua Bruins 79-35 thanks in part to a total team effort that saw 10 players reach the scorebook. The Blue Streaks were led by Julia Hall with 17, Brynn Roggenburk 14 and Katie Maryo 11 in the big win. Charlotte Pap and Elibeth were strong off the bench with 9 and 7 points while Sophia Laporte had 8 and Reese Roggenburk scored 6. Abigail Norman had 3 while Sophia Wilson and Sophia Kuhlman each had 2.
The Bruins did their best to keep up as the extremely talented combination of Sophie Spade scored 10 and teammate Michela Cario had 8. A healthy Cario can very dangerous come postseason while Sophie Spade, every time I see her play, she gets better and better. Spade is quickly becoming one of the best freshman talents in the area. Spade is one to watch! Sharpshooting Ella Figliano had 4 for the Bruins as did Ally Tonsing.
The game began with Brynne Roggenburk hitting back to back three pointers in the first 65 seconds to get the Blue Streaks cooking early. The Bruins halted that run briefly with a Ashley Rypiak bucket and a Michela Cario foul before yet another three ball from Roggenburk found the bottom of the net. A few possessions later, it was Julia Hall joining the three-point party, to give the Blue Streaks their largest lead of the quarter at 14-3 with 2:24 to play. The Blue Streaks went on to take a 21-9 lead after one.
The Blue Streaks are dangerous in so many ways and they showed that to open the second quarter. After about a 55 second possession with the ball for Padua came up empty, Julia Hall streaked down the court like a wide-open receiver breaking away from a defensive back where she caught a deep pass launched from the hip of Sophia Wilson and went up for the layup and easy two points. It was a play her longtime football coach father Jason Hall, would be proud of. Hall and Wilson continue to be so much fun to watch play together as they have a real chemistry.
The Wilson to Hall touchdown connection was part of an 8-3 run by the Blue Streaks to begin the second quarter, which saw them run their lead out to 29-12 with 3:42 left in the half. Padua hit a few shots in a row from Cario, Spade and Figliano but couldn’t get it back to single digits as Magnificat took a 37-17 lead into the break.
Blue Streak head coach Danny Gallagher used a 10-girl rotation in the third to get everyone some minutes and they did well, as 4 minutes into the quarter, Reese Roggenburk already scored 6 points to help them extend their lead to 48-21. From there, the Blue Streaks went on another run to end the quarter leading 61-26 with 7 points from Elizabeth Spicer in that stretch as well.
The fourth quarter featured Sophia Kuhlman and Abigail Norman finding the scorebook as we mentioned earlier, 10 total Blue Streaks saw the book tonight. This was part of 18-point quarter for Blue Streaks as they capped off the 79-35 win.
