ROCKY RIVER, OH – The Lutheran West Lady Longhorns were impressive in a 61-18 victory over the Orange Lady Lions. Ava Adya led the way for Lutheran West with a career night. She scored 23 points on the night that included SEVEN 3-pointers. The Longhorns got off to a fast start and never looked back.
Straight from the jump, Lutheran West was playing strong physical defense that made it difficult for Orange to even cross over half court. Ce Grant and Aliciana Medina were leading the charge on defense. Multiple players were jumping passing lanes in the back court and forcing bad passes. That was the mantra all night long for the Lady Longhorns. Strong defense that would turn into instant offense.
Orange guard Kynnade Bates was doing everything she could to keep the Lions in the game. She was hustling after loose balls and finding open players on offense. However, after the 1st quarter, Lutheran West held a 15-7 lead. Bates was responsible for all 7 of Orange’s points.
Everything really started to click for Lutheran West in the 2nd quarter. Continued pressure on the defensive end gave them easy opportunities on offense. They also were pounding the offensive glass and came up with multiple 2nd chance opportunities. Five different players scored in the quarter. Defensively, they continued to get steals and forced the Lions into turnovers. At the half they jumped out to a 37-9 lead. Ava Adya was leading the charge on offense with 11 points.
Lutheran West did not let up in the 2nd half. They continued to get good shots up on the offensive end of the floor that made it hard for the Orange Lions to make any kind of comeback. The long ball became their best friend as they knocked down 4 triples in the quarter. Three of which came from Ava Adya. Orange was still struggling to find any kind of offense outside of Kynnade Bates. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Bates had scored 11 of the team’s 15 total points. The Longhorns extended their lead as well by going up 54-15 heading into the 4th quarter.
The final frame did not feature a lot of offense from either team. Lutheran West was able to knock down just 3 field goals in the quarter. One of which of course was on an Ava Adya triple. On the other hand, the Lions did not make a single field goal, but scored 3 points from the free throw line. At the final buzzer, Lutheran West walked away with a 61-18 victory.
The Lady Longhorns advanced to 4-5 with the win over Orange. They will host the Fairview Warriors (4-5) on Wednesday, January 10th at 7PM. For the Orange Lions, the loss drops them to 3-7 on the year. They welcome in the Cornerstone Christian Patriots on Wednesday, January 3rd at 6:15PM.
