by WESTLAKE, OH – The Westlake Demons used a strong defense to keep the high flying North Olmsted Eagles ground Wednesday night in a 51-27 GLC victory. The Demons were led by a strong defense but also by 14 points from Ella Henton and 8 from Jacaia Onuwor. Henton was red hot, and seemed to hit a big shot every time North Olmsted attempted to put together a comeback.
The Eagles were led by Mia Donald who continued to excel in the paint with 9 points. Molly Tabar hit two shots from long distance on her way to 7 points, while Tesneem Shahin and Rose Lane each finished with 5 for the Black and Orange.
The Eagles looked to establish an inside presence early, and did so with 4 quick points from Mia Donald. The Demons were unfazed however and countered with 4 early points from Onuwor. From there, both teams went ice cold, and the score remained just 4-4 as more than half of the first quarter had gone by, with it still 4-4. The first quarter ended 11-8 with the Demons on top, the difference being a Taylor Kress three ball.
The Demons came out guns a blazing and shut out the Eagles for the first four minutes of the second quarter. They used this cold spell of Eagle shooting to go on a 11-0 run to start the quarter, running their lead out to 22-8 in the process. A Rose Lane bucket would finally stop the bleeding for the Eagles. The Demons went on to hold a 24-13 lead at the break.
The second half started with Henton and Lane swapping 3 pointers as the Demon lead remained in double digits. Westlake went on to build their biggest lead of the game at 32-18 when Molly Tabar drained a three for the Eagles to scratch and claw back to 32-21 with 2:48 to play in the third. By quarters end, the Demons had placed serious space between themselves and the visiting Eagles with a 36-22 lead.
The Demons never let it get any closer, and pulled away in the fourth for the 51-27 win.
