A high-scoring game between the Medina Bees and the John Marshall Lawyers, which contained 110 points total, was an absolute shootout. The Medina Bees took control of the first half as they scored 63 points in the first two quarters. Dan Stoddard led the Bees at quarterback, throwing 26/39 for 463 yards, six touchdowns in the first half. Stoddard’s six receivers who put up monster numbers were:
Jack Wojciak, with 2 catches for 54 yards and 1 touchdown,
Nathan Angus, with 2 catches for 30 yards and 1 touchdown,
Dylan Whitehill, with 4 catches for 51 yards and 2 touchdowns,
Brayden Walker, with 6 catches for 117 yards,
Hayden Chenevey, with 3 catches for 24 yards and 1 touchdown,
Camryn Hathaway, with 2 catches for 34 yards and 1 touchdown,
Sydney Lloyd, with 6 catches for 73 yards and 1 touchdown.
Medina QB Chris DePasquale saw some action in the second quarter, throwing 2/2 for 18 yards and 2 touchdowns. Beckett Vogrin was the Bees’ final signal caller and went 6/8 for 80 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. His go to wideout was Jackson Riffle, who had 2 catches for 31 yards and 1 touchdown. Medina kicker Finn Kelps also nailed all 9 of his extra points.
Medina’s defense also came to play as they snagged 6 interceptions. The picks were credited to Darnell Davis (1), Brayden Smigel (2), Colin Grice (2), and Tallen Hulvey, who returned his for a 65-yard pick-six. Jeffrey Marshall also recovered a fumble for the Bees.
The Lawyers of John Marshall were led by quarterback Cason Diiulio, who threw the ball 32 times, completing 15 passes for 186 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He was accompanied in the backfield by his two running backs, Anthony Hempstead and Jaylan Salmon. Hempstead carried the ball 13 times for 84 yards and 1 touchdown. Salmon carried the ball 8 times for 33 yards. Diiulio’s trio of Marking Payne, Randall Henry, and Tramell Reese all had solid days as well. Payne had 4 receptions for 54 yards and 1 touchdown, Henry snagged 6 catches for 72 yards and 1 touchdown, and Reese had 3 catches for 50 yards and 1 touchdown. Lawyers kicker Irene Mucyo went 5/6 on extra points and had one blocked.
John Marshall DB Jaylen Ledger stole the show on the defensive end. He had 2 interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns.
With the loss, John Marshall’s season is over as they are eliminated from the OHSAA Division I playoffs. With the win, Medina will advance to the Regional Quarterfinals in Region 1 and will travel to Wadsworth to take on the Grizzlies in a 3 vs 6 matchup.
