Avon Defeats Toledo St Johns Jesuit 28-0 to Advance into Second Round

The Eagles got the ball to start this one and Titans defense came up big as they forced junior running back Tyler Kaufmann to fumble and the Titans defense recovered to try and take control and to try and take the momentum away from the Eagles. On the first drive by the Titans though they had to settle for a punt and the Eagles defense picked up Kaufmanns fumble when this punt was blocked by junior linebacker Nick Colburn to set the Eagles defense into prime scoring position. The Eagles did just that on their next drive when the starting quarterback and sophomore quarterback Blake Elder found junior wide receiver Matt Maxey from 37 yards out and after a successful point after attempt by junior kicker Owen Warrick, the Eagles led 7 to 0. The Titans had to settle for another punt, and we headed to the second quarter with the score still at 7 to 0.

The Titans got the ball to start the second half down 7-0 and the Eagles defense continued their dominance when sophomore linebacker Ryan Stolarski picked off Carson Pawlowicz. Both teams swapped punts for a couple of drives before senior running back Jakorian Caffey bounced off a bunch of would be tacklers for 7 yards for a score to put the Eagles up by two scores after a successful point after attempt by Warrick. This would lead us to the final quarter of play with the Eagles up 14 to 0.

To start the fourth quarter, Elder completed a pass to wide receiver Maxey for a 28-yard gain to set the Eagles up in prime scoring position. Maxey then rushed 13 yards to painter and after a successful point after attempt by Warrick the Eagles led 21 to 0. On the ensuing Titan drive, they converted a fourth down but ended up having to punt. The Eagles converted on fourth down themselves to keep the drive alive. The Eagle put the final touches on the game when Grant Barr rushed 31 yards to the end zone to put the Eagles up 28 to 0 after another successful point after attempt by Warrick.

The players of the game go to the Eagles defense once again as they pitched another shutout as they have now kept their opponents scoreless for the second straight game. This is a big feat since one of those two shutouts came in the playoffs. Despite being held scoreless all game the player of the game for the Titans of Saint Johns Jesuit goes to sophomore quarterback Carson Pawlowicz as he led his team in both rushing yards and had a high completion percentage.

The Titans of Toledo St Johns Jesuit High School finish the season with a record of 4-7 while the Avon Eagles move on to the second round to face the winner of Westlake and Brecksville Broadview Heights at home next week in round two of the OHSAA football playoffs.
