Kirtland, Ohio – The Kirtland Hornets shut out the visiting Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves, 35-0, on Friday night at Wilson Stadium.
Nick Armbrust picked off a pass for the Red Wolves on the first Kirtland possession. The Hornets responded with an interception of their own, from senior Gino Blasini.
Will Beers took a handoff 34 yards to the house, putting the Hornets ahead, 7-0, with 5:41 left in the first after a successful PAT.
The Hornet offense was on the move once again. After a fumble recovery, Rocco Alfieri punched it in from a yard out to give Kirtland a 14-0 lead at the 2:15 mark of the first.
Will Beers took a handoff 52 yards to paydirt to end the first quarter and push the Kirtland lead to 21-0.
After another defensive stop, Rocco Alfieri took a handoff 52 yards to the house for his second score of the game to make the score 28-0 at the 9:29 mark of the second quarter.
The Kirtland defense came up with their third turnover of the game, thanks to a Will Sayle interception. He later scored on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jake LaVerde to increase the Kirtland lead to 35-0 at the 7:36 mark.
Kirtland looked to pad their lead to close out the half. However, the Hornets fumbled at the one-yard line. Gavin Chamberlin recovered the loose ball for Cuyahoga Heights.
The second half was played with a running clock, due to the 35-point margin.
Kirtland, now 4-1, travels to Grand Valley for CVC action next Friday, Sept. 22nd.
Cuyahoga Heights is now 3-1. The Red Wolves travel to Independence for CVC action next Friday, Sept. 22nd.
