The Midview Middies hosted the Elyria Catholic Panthers for week three. The Panthers came into the game looking for their first win of the season. However, it didn’t happen tonight as the Middies took care of business at home winning 21-13.
On the Middies second drive of the game, they put together a series of plays totaling 86 yards. Micheal Passerello Jr., Hunter Anderson, and quarterback Ethan Elbert all got involved. Elbert would be the one to cap off the drive with a 12-yard touchdown. That put his team on the board first with 6:14 to go in quarter one.
After a lengthy standstill from both offenses, it seemed like neither team could get anything going. But, Midview and Elbert would find similar success to the first scoring drive. A 60-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver Dane West, increased the lead to 14-0 with under six minutes to go in the half.
The game continued to swing in favor of the Middies. Passerello scored an 8-yard touchdown with 1:24 left in the second giving his team a comfortable 21-0 lead going into halftime.
In the third, the Panthers finally found success on their first drive. Quarterback Hector Garcia made a miraculous 23-yard to convert a risky fourth and long. The next play led to a 5-yard touchdown by Anthony Demartinis. However, the visiting Panthers still had some work to do, down 14.
To kick off the fourth quarter, the Panthers answered the bell. They converted on all their plays, which led to a 22-yard connection from Garcia to receiver Connor Petrus. Unfortunately, the PAT missed, but the lead still shrunk to 13-21 with 8:30 to go in the final quarter of play.
With just 5:14 left the Panthers got a huge stop. Things got interesting, but the visitors fell just short. Their final drive ended with around two minutes to go as the Middies defense stepped up. It was a valiant effort, but the home team escapes, 21-13.
