The overcast:

Kent State last season was under a regime that set one of the toughest non-conference schedules among all group five schools. That coaching staff and roster left or transferred out, the offense has zero returning starters while the defense has four returners from last season. This makes the flashes the least experienced team going into this season. With a first-time head coach, the Flash fast offense is out the door as it made its way to Colorado. Sophomore Michael Alaimo is the projected starter at QB, he will most likely battle with Freshman Tommy Ulatowki and Sopmore Devin Kargman. This QB battle will not end during camp as we could see all three start and rotate during this season. Running back will be this team’s strong suite, Xavier Williams is the projected starter with Gavin Garcia right behind him. The defense may have five returners but are still depending on transfers and underclassmen going into the season.

Dom’s Overlook

Kent State lost almost all their impact players from last season after the coaching change this offseason. Kent State will go from airing it out in a fast-paced offense to a slow methodical run game as this teams learns more about themselves this season. The flashes have been competing for the east crown the past few seasons, looking at this roster it may be a few years until Kenni Burns can build his roster up. I do not have high expectations for this team this season, I do see the Flashes heading in the right direction as they build up the teams culture. Flash fans, Kent may have a bad season but the Flashes are in the right hands as Kenni Burns looks to capitalize on his first head coach opportunity.

2023 prediction

The Flashes non-conference schedule isn’t as tough as last year, that doesn’t mean its easy. They open on the road against UCF then to Arkansas, games I have down as losses. They host Central Connecticut which is the only win I have for the Flashes this season. I have them losing all conference games including to Akron, giving up the Wagon wheel to their foes. This will be a rough season for the flashes as it will show on the scoreboard through the season.
