When Midpark and Berea merged it became a natural rivalry fueled by the kids of Olmsted Falls as both schools would be located on the same street, minutes apart! This rivalry has grown over the years not just through football but with all of the sports. This is what high school sports is all about. The kids will remember these games for years to come. Friday night lights are a chance for everyone in a community to put all of their differences aside for a moment and just cheer for their community. No one cares about all of the controversies in the world and they can just have fun and be a part of the Friday night experience.
If I was going to sum up the Bagley Cup rivalry, the best way I can do it is by saying this: It is two blue-collar towns just a few miles apart that are in it for the right reason. When you buy your ticket and take your seat for the game, expect a lot of emotion and a ton of points!
And now, for the first time ever, there is a book filled with photos, quotes and memories from this amazing rivalry.
The book is called, “Northeast Ohio High School Football Rivalries”.
I will be appearing at Roasted Coffee Shop in Olmsted Falls on July 22nd from 12-2 to sell and sign copies. If you cannot be there in person, you can order a copy at the below link. The book covers every single detail of the Bagley Cup Rivlary between Olmsted Falls and Berea-Midpark. Not a single thing is left out!
Northeast Ohio high school football has always been known for its drama, intensity and rivalries. For more than a century, McKinley and Massillon have met on the gridiron every fall in one of the state’s most evenly matched contests. Since 1971, the St. Ignatius Wildcats yearly clash with the St. Edwards Eagles in the Cleveland Holy War. More recently, Avon and Avon Lake have kicked off a border war for bragging rights and hardware in the Silver Rail Rivalry, and Olmsted Falls and Berea-Midpark face each other in the heated Battle of Bagley Road.
