Plain Township, Ohio – #7 Canton GlenOak defeated #18 Uniontown Lake, 44-39, in the Division I, Northeast 1 Twinsburg District sectional semifinal Wednesday night.
Wednesday’s game was a rematch of the teams’ previous conference matchups against one another. Lake won 59-49 on January 6th, and Canton GlenOak returned the favor, 47-44, on February 3rd.
Uniontown Lake led, 11-8, after the first quarter, as senior forward Landyn Roth had five points, including the game-opening basket, and a connection from deep.
In the second quarter, GlenOak took the lead, 15-13, thanks to a mini 5-0, started by a Ja’Corey Lipkins triple, followed by a Katour Ashcroft bucket.
Landyn Roth gave the Blue Streaks the lead, 18-17, at the half, thanks to another late layup. He had seven in the first half.
In the third quarter the two teams traded hoops, and finished up knotted at 30 apiece. Five different Blue Streaks scored in the quarter, and Ja’Corey Lipkins hit a pair of buckets for the Golden Eagles.
The teams continued to trade buckets in the fourth quarter, before a Reese Zerger bucket put the Golden Eagles ahead to stay, 38-36. Jaylen McElroy added a pair of layups around a pair of free throws to salt the game away.
Canton GlenOak improves to 17-6 and moves on to face #16 Austintown Fitch in a sectional final Saturday evening. Junior guard Jaylen McElroy came off the bench, scoring 12 points. Junior guard Ja’Corey Lipkins added 11.
Uniontown Lake ends their season at 10-13. Junior guard Chance Casenhiser led the Blue Streaks with 18 points, followed by senior Landyn Roth, who had nine.
