Strongsville Uses Huge Fourth Quarter to Beat Berea-Midpark 57-44

Strongsville outscored Berea Midpark 22-12 including a 13-2 run to outlast the Titans to get a big nonconference win. Taylor Bass led the game with 21 points and Paige Coleman added 16 of her own for the Mustangs. Lauren Yee would lead the way for the Titans with 11.

The game started off very slow as neither team could get anything going against the other team’s defense. The teams went back and forth during the first quarter as the Titans led 10-9 after one.

The second quarter was much of the same. Both teams playing terrific on ball defense and making every shot contested. Lauren Yee would find her way to the basket multiple times as she would lead the Titans with 11 first half points. It wasn’t enough to give her team the lead at the break, however. The Mustangs would take a 20-19 lead to the locker room behind seven points from Paige Coleman.

The teams came out of the locker room hot as both teams knocked down multiple threes to get the scoring going in the third quarter. Taylor Bass and Paige Coleman knocked down threes to answer the two triples by the Titans Kendall Braaten. Neither team could get their lead to more than four points to this point in the game. The Mustangs had a 35-32 advantage after three and it was the largest lead at the end of a quarter for either team.

The fourth quarter is really where the Mustangs took over. The Mustangs used a 13-2 run, eight straight by Taylor Bass, to run away with this game. Coach Farnbauch said “coming together and being discipline on the offensive side” was the key to the run. Paige Coleman attributed to the big fourth by knocking down two dagger threes to put the game out of reach. Kendall Braaten and Talyssa Moody knocked down shots for the Titans in the fourth, but it just wouldn’t be enough.
