The St Joseph Academy Jaguars hosted the West Geauga Wolverines in a defensive matchup on Tuesday night. The game started with the Jaguars getting out to an early 10-4 lead with the help of a few baskets by Elise Larsen. The Wolverines would answer back with a 6-0 run to end the quarter tied at 10 each. The second quarter saw the Jaguars dominate the paint and the glass as they took another 6-point lead early in the quarter. Jaguars Senior Abby Flannery was on fire from deep as she hit a couple threes.
Wolverines forward Maggie Hurst hit a few late layups in the quarter, but the Jaguars held a 22-14 lead at the half. The scoring picked up in the third as both teams were hitting threes early and often. The Wolverines showed promise in a comeback but the Jaguars, with help from a few baskets by Maddie Roth, kept their commanding lead going into the fourth.
The Wolverines again started the quarter hot and cut the lead within 10 points with a few minutes to go, but the Jaguars answered and put the game away, winning by a final score of 49-33. The Jaguars saw a total of 8 different girls scoring and contributing to the win tonight. The leading scorers for the Jaguars were Elise Larsen with 12 and Abby Flannery with 11. The leading scorers for the Wolverines were Maggie Hurst with 12 and Alexa Hocevar 10.
