FAIRVIEW PARK, OH- Saturday afternoon the Westlake Lady Demons came into the Fairview gym and took down the home Warriors 46-39.

The first half was the Leila Discenza show. The Senior guard could not be stopped as she came out the gates firing from all cylinders. To open the game, Discenza had all 12 first quarter points for the Warriors.

For the Demons, Lydia Tymoszczuk opened up the scoring drilling a three and a crafty layup. Along with the Junior guard, the size of Annika Norris was too much down low for the Warriors as her 7 points led the Lady Demons up 3 going into the half.

Coming out of the break, Westlake made defensive adjustments focusing on Discenza. The Warriors had trouble getting her the ball early in the second half, but her tenacious shooting remained lights out.

The Senior led the game in scoring, and by a lot for that matter, as she drilled 8 three pointers and finished with 28 points.

Head Coach Dave Murphy said, “She’s always been a good shooter, Westlake did a good job double teaming her as the game went on.”

Westlake’s answer to Discenza was aggressive defense from Colleen Urich, who also added another 5 points attacking the basket on offense. The Demon win was a team effort, as the stat sheet had 9 players on the board.

The scoring effort was led by Annika Norris who was a force all afternoon with 9 points and a boatload of rebounds to go along with it.

With 6 minutes remaining, an Ella Henton corner three put the Demons lead into double digits. Immediately, the Sophomores shot was answered by Elise Walters’s corner three of her own, keeping the Warriors in the game.

For Fairview, it was too little too late. A Lauryn Stanton corner three with 3 minutes left was the dagger, as the Warriors were unable to close the lead as time went on. Overall, the depth of Westlake was a little too much for the Warriors.

Head Coach Corey Rojeck said, “I was pretty proud how we moved the ball. We were unselfish… any time you can have 9, almost 10 kids score in a high school basketball game means you’re moving the ball well.”

The player of the game was Leila Discenza who had incredible shooting all game. Her near 30-piece just wasn’t backed up enough, as her supporting cast only put up a combined 11 points.
