Maple Heights leads wire-to-wire, defeating Gilmour Academy, 57-44

University Heights, Ohio – The Maple Heights Mustangs defeated Gilmour Academy, 57-44 in Game #2 of the PBP Classic at John Carroll University.

The first quarter was a defensive struggle, with Maple Heights ended the quarter leading 8-4. The Mustangs went on a 10-0 run to push their lead to 18-4, thanks to the efforts of Jayvion Moore, who had six points in the second quarter. Davan Aniton had seven, including a buzzer-beating triple to end the first half.

That, and an airtight defense set the Mustang lead to 25-11 at the half.

Gilmour Academy trimmed their deficit to 29-20 midway through the third, thanks to the efforts of Brandon Rose, who had six points in the stanza. The Lancers also had four players connect from long range to help their rally efforts. Maple Heights led 40-31 after three.

Gilmour cut their deficit to 40-35 before a couple of buckets from Darius Davis. The Mustang defense clamped down again, helping the offense to a 17-9 run to end the game.

Maple Heights pads their winning streak to eight. The Mustangs (8-4) travel to Brush for a non-conference contest Tuesday, January 10th, and hosts Shaw Friday January 13th in a Lake Erie League contest. They were led by 15 points from senior Darius Davis and Davan Aniton. Senior Jayvion Moore had ten.

Gilmour Academy (5-6) hosts SOM Center Road rival University School on Friday, January 13th. They were led by 21 points from senior guard Brandon Rose.
