East Canton holds off Field, 50-48, in Game #1 of Springfield Holiday Showcase

Lakemore, Ohio – The East Canton Hornets held off the Field Falcons, 50-48, in Game #1 of the Springfield Holiday Showcase.

The Hornets jumped out to a 9-1 lead early in the first thanks to the efforts of juniors Caleb Shilling and Olly Schrader, and led 17-10 at the end of one.

They would maintain a 26-18 lead going into the halftime break, and would increase their lead to as much as 12.

Field would make their comeback attempt thanks to the efforts of senior guard Braxton Baumberger. He had 23 points for the Falcons Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons had a 9-3 run to cut their deficit to 47-46 with :24.4 left.

Ian Spencer split a one-and-one for the Hornets to put them up 48-46, and they retained possession thanks to the ball going off a Field player.

Olly Schrader had the game-clinching layup off an inbound with :15.6 left to clinch the game. He had 17 points to pace the Hornets. Jaedyn McLeod and Caleb Shilling each chipped in 11.

East Canton (3-3) plays at Malvern next Tuesday.

Field (0-7) travels to Crestwood Monday evening in search of their first win.
