Full Video Highlights of the game –

CANTON, Ohio – It was the David Homan show tonight as the New Bremen Cardinals took out the Warren JFK Eagles 38-6 to capture the Division VII State Championship.  Homan was a machine as he ran for 235 yards with 4 touchdowns.  He also excelled on defense where he had nearly a dozen tackles.

The New Bremen Cardinals took the opening drive 64 yards while soaking up 6 minutes worth of time to punch it in with a Hunter Schaefer touchdown run from 13 yards out to get the scoring going at 7-0. Quarterback David Homan hit two different receivers on the drive as well. It was a 13 play, 64-yard drive that took 5:50 off the clock.

After the Cardinals forced an Eagle punt, Homan fumbled the fair catch attempt to give the ball right back to Warren JFK at the Cardinal 20-yard line. The Eagles couldn’t convert the good field position into points however, and the score remained 7-0 Cardinals.

Homan made up for his earlier fumble, by taking a qb draw 67 yards on their next possession for a touchdown to extend the Cardinal lead to 14-0 with 10:50 to go in the first half.  This gave Homan 85 yards rushing on 10 attempts in a little over 1 quarter of action. The drive took 5 plays, went 87 yards and took only 91 seconds.

Down 14 – 0 with time winding down in the first half, the Eagles were able to move the ball near midfield when an interception by Evan Ike off the Eagle pass to end that drive early without points. It was then that the Cardinals decided to run the exact same play again that ended up in points when Homan took it himself on a spread style run through the hole in the line from 41 yards out to score. This made it 21-0 as the Eagles simply couldn’t stop that play with 3:56 to play in the opening half of action.

A 35-yard field goal by Hunter Schaefer increased the lead to 24-0 at the half.

The Eagles started the second half with the ball and went right to work with their comeback attempt.  A 10 play, 65-yard drive, took 3:55 off the clock and resulted in a 27-yard Hadley to Rossi touchdown pass to break up the shutout and give the Eagles some life.

David Homan snuffed out the comeback attempt with a lengthy drive of their own, resulting in points.  This time Homan cashed it in on a 7 yard touchdown run, finishing a 14 play drive that took 6:15 off the clock to increase the lead to 31-6.

The David Homan show continued as the Eagles fumbled the kickoff, and it took the Cardinals 1 play for the speedy quarterback to take it to the house with another touchdown run.  This one was from 31 yards out to push the lead to 38-6.
