Canton, OH – Canfield quarterback Broc Lowry is headed to Indiana in the fall but made one final impact before leaving as he lit it up to lead Canfield to a 35 – 14 victory over Bloom Carroll to help the Cardinals capture the Division III State Championship. Lowry scored multiple times in multiple different ways. He threw for 95 yards and a touchdown. He ran for 121 yards and scored 3 touchdowns, and he caught a pass for 69 yards and a touchdown. It was a night for the ages for Lowry!
After forcing a Bloom Carroll three and out to start the game, the Canfield Cardinals went on a tremendous clock soaking 7-minute drive as they methodically drove the ball own the field. In the end, it was Broc Lowry taking it in from one yard out to put the Cardinals ahead 7-0 with 4:18 to play in the opening quarter.
For Canfield, it was the same solution when they had the ball in the second quarter still up 7-0. Run the ball, throw short, and control the clock. They went on a 14 play, 73-yard drive soaking up 7:03 with 12 rushes and 2 passes. They cashed it in with another touchdown run by Lowry to extend the lead to 14-0 with 2:47 to play in the second quarter.
It was then that Carroll Bloom went on a tremendous two-minute drive to get back in the game before halftime. Ethan Thanthanavong hit several open receivers and eventually found a wide-open Bishop Brody in the corner of the endzone. Evan did a great job of rolling out and finding the open man to make it 14-7.
Bloom Carroll saw an early second half drive fizzle out with a fumble near midfield as a fake double reverse went haywire on them. This allowed Canfield to take over with great field advantage and begin to eat up some more clock with another methodical drive. For the third time on the day, it was Broc Lowry scoring on a sneak to improve their lead to 21-7 with 3:55 to go in the third quarter. The quarter ended by that same score.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Lowry decided to let someone else throw the ball, only if he could catch it of course. It was Paul Bindas dumping it off to Broc Lowry who then took off down the sidelines outrunning Bulldogs to a 69-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach at 28-7.
Lowry’s big day continued with a 9-yard touchdown toss to Dom Marzano with 6:06 to go in the game to put things away 35-7. Canfield went on to win 35-14 to capture the Division III State Championship.
