Defensive Effort & Superb Ball Movement Lead Amherst Comets to 53-22 Victory Over Elyria

I’ve stated it time and time again, this Amherst team, is dangerous, very dangerous and they are off to a red hot 3-0 start this season. Tonight, they defeated the visiting Elyria Pioneers 53-22 in dominant fashion.

The Comets were once again led by the terrific trio of Kayla Ferancy, Kristen Kelley and Bradyn Silvasy with 14 each. Also soaring for the Comets tonight was Peyton Roberts with 4, Jayla Cruz with 5, while Natalie Pleban and Kylie Kimmich had 2 each.

The Pioneers were paced by T’Asia Easley and Hannah Miller with 7 each.  Also scoring for Elyria was KaMariana Scott with 5 and Kloie Troutman with 3.

The Comets started the scoring just 8 seconds into the game as Natalie Pleban won the tip to Kayla Ferancy who tossed it over to Kristen Kelley who got it right back to Ferancy for a bucket so quick, if you blinked, you missed it.

A Kristen Kelley inside bucket, followed by a Kelley strip and score, made it 6-0 only 68 seconds into the game.   It was a sign of things to come as Pioneer coach Anthony Brown called a timeout to try to settle the team down.

The Kelley show continued as a few moments after the timeout, she went back to work with another made basket after a filthy dish from Ferancy to increase the lead to 8-0.  A driving score by Hannah Miller from Elyria stopped the bleeding, momentarily at 8-2.

From there it was Bradyn Silvasys turn to get in on the action as she nailed a three, to make it 11-2.  The Comets would roll from their and take a 24-5 lead after one.

The two-girl game of Ferancy to Kelley continued to cruise as the second quarter began and the Dynamic Duo went back to work on the opening possession.  Moments after that, it wasn’t Memorex, but rather Silvasy draining another one from long range to extend the lead to 29-5.

Elyria worked, worked, and worked some more to get a shot off on their next possession but Hayli Hendrix was stuffed by Kelley, who then took away the loose ball and gave it to Ferancy.  A split second later Ferancy was down the court and dished it back to Kelley for another two points!

This was the kind of effort and defensive pressure along with ball movement that head coaches dream about!  The Comets went on to win 53-22 as plays like this continued all night for the Comets.

This Saturday the Comets travel to Avon in an effort to stay hot while the Pioneers look to bounce back as they host Midview.

  1. Comets looking great for playing cupcakes, do this vs a Falls and Midview then we can talk. Elyria- Shaw – Twinsburg! Not the best competition…
