Gilmour trailed all game until midway through the fourth quarter when they finally broke through, they took the lead and never looked back in a thrilling 54-51 win over CVCA. The Lancers were led by 19 from Hellen Holley. Kline-Ruminski hit some big shots down the stretch to finish with 10. Katie Pulletti had two deep balls as she finished with 8 points. Nicci Finazzo also had two deep balls as she finished with 12 points.
Despite the loss, CVCA has some next level talent with Gia Casalinova who was everywhere today. She totaled 21 and scored from everywhere on the court. She went 8 of 9 from the charity stripe and hit two from downtown as well. Kylie Bettinger buried 3 from deep to finish with 9. Hadley Hajdu tallied 6 while Katelyn Harabed also had 6.
CVCA jumped out to a 14-3 lead to begin the game on the strength of three balls from Gia Casalinova, Kylie Bettinger and Hadley Hajdu. The CVCA Royals controlled the quarter and led 17-7 after the opening 8 minutes of play.
The Lancers came out gunning to start the second quarter in an attempt to get back in it quickly and did. 5 straight points came from a three ball from Pulletti and then a nice bucket by Holley cut it to 17-12 in a little over 90 seconds. The quarter would go back and forth as he each team went on runs, but the Lancers cut into the lead 30-26 by halftime. They were able to cut the lead in half thanks in part to 7 from Hellen Holley and a timely three ball from Tia Shaw along with 5 clutch point from Katie Pulletti.
The CVCA Royals started hot to begin the second half with two straight buckets from Harabedian and Williams to run the lead back out to 8 at 34-26, two more foul shots by Casalinova, and it was a double digit lead yet again for CVCA. Every time the Lancers would make a run, the Royals would stop it with a three ball from Kylie Bettinger. The Lancers would not go away however and inside of a minute, a three ball from Pulletti made it 40-37 CVCA. The score after three was the CVCA Royals 42 and the Gilmour Lancers 37 after all of that, they maintained the 5-point lead.
Hellen Holley took over for the Lancers to begin the fourth quarter with 4 points in a matter of 5 seconds. She scored, got he steal right away, and scored again, just like that it was 42-41. The Lancers took their first lead of the game with 2:59 to go as Elaina Kline- Ruminski buried a three to make it 46-44 Gilmour. Casalinova and Finazzo traded off burying one big shot after another, and with 1:13 to play, Gilmour held a slight 51-49 edge. A Kline -Ruminski layup increased it to 53-49 with 35.6 left. Two Joi Williams foul shots cut into it at 53-51 with 23.8 to go.
However, the Lancers of Gilmour hung on for the win.
