NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OH – North Ridgeville hosted Elyria for tonight’s game and it was a challenging game for the Rangers. The game’s final score was 42-6 as Elyria picked up the victory.
A few plays into the first quarter of the night, North Ridgeville defensive linemen Kaleb Malone and Jermey Michael combined for a massive sack. North Ridgeville was unable to capitalize on offense after receiving the ball. The offensive struggles continued through much of the night.
Elyria’s senior running back Lance Glover broke the deadlock with a 40-yard touchdown run. Tacking on the PAT was Elyria kicker Tim Rader making the score 7-0 Elyria. On the following drive, Anthony Hagler quickly secured an interception and Elyria capitalized with points. Jaden Gilbert, a senior, scored his first touchdown of the night. The first quarter ended with a score of 14-0 in favor of the visiting Pioneers.
The flood gates opened for Elyria’s offense in the second quarter.The Rangers were unable to slow down the Pioneers and the score got out of hand quickly.
To begin the streak of touchdowns was Elyria’s running back Gilbert. His second touchdown on the night put his team up 21-0. When North Ridgeville got the ball back, their first play resulted in a fumble.
The Pioneers once again took advantage of the turnover and senior Jasir Lucky punched the ball into the end zone. Tim Rader’s PAT made it 28-0.
After a positive run for North Ridgeville, the drive was quickly halted by an interception. After the interception, Elyria senior Cameron Edwards secured a big rushing touchdown putting the Pioneers up 35.
Lance Glover scored the final touchdown of the second quarter. His second touchdown on the night not only put the Pioneers up 42-0, but also started the running clock. Halftime could not come soon enough for the Rangers.
In the second half the clock would continue to tick down quickly. In the third quarter both teams had just two possessions. Neither scored but Elyria sophomore Steven Gilbert did have one remarkable 36-yard run. The third quarter wrapped up the same way the second quarter did at 42-0.
Plenty of new numbers were on the field leading into the fourth and final quarter as the backups finished out the game. Elyria’s sophomore QB Justin Godbolt was running the offense for the game’s last quarter. North Ridgeville secured possession of the ball and on their first drive of the quarter scored their first TD of the night. Sophomore Charlie Steinmetz took a 42-yard run to paydirt. North Ridgeville then missed the PAT.
The game concluded with a final score of 42-6 as Elyria returned home with the win.
