On a brisk Saturday afternoon at First Energy of Lakewood Stadium, the St. Edward Eagles hosted the Rock Creek Christian Academy Eagles. In a battle of the Eagles, St. Edward walked away with a victory—the final score being 37-6. Two key players that aided in St. Ed’s victory were Running back Marvin Bell and Wide Receiver Kyan Mason. In the contest against Rock Creek Christian Academy, Bell rushed for 79 yards on 23 carries, scoring 3 touchdowns. Kyan Mason’s raw athleticism and resilience when the ball is in his hands has given him great success as St. Ed’s wide receiver. Against Rock Creek Christian Academy, Mason caught 6 out of 7 passes, receiving for 56 yards and scoring one touchdown.
Another name worth mentioning is Rock Creek Christian’s Quarterback Tahj Smith. Smith is a very versatile player in his ability to accurately throw the ball under pressure as well as his ability to pick up yards with his own run game. He threw 11 completions out of 15 pass attempts for 64 total passing yards while also leading his teams in rushing yardage with 12 carries for 70 total yards.
The St. Edward Eagles dominated in the first quarter. Rock Creek Christian had the ball to start the game but quickly threw an interception, picked off by Defensive back Cy Colvin. On offense, St. Eds pushed the tempo leading to a 15-yard touchdown by Marvin Bell.
After the interception, St. Eds was able to score in 4 plays and only 38 seconds displaying their efficiency on offense. A poor snap by Rock Creek Christian’s center resulted in a safety followed by another touchdown by Marvin Bell of St. Eds.

The momentum continued to favor St. Eds into the second quarter with a quick 7-yard touchdown by Marvin Bell and another touchdown by running back Joshua Groudle. St. Edward’s defense led by Andrew Haas, with 2 huge sacks in the contest, prevented Rock Creek Christian from scoring. St. Ed’s led with a score of 30-6 to end the half.
The second half became stagnant for both teams. Kyan Mason’s touchdown in the middle of the third quarter was the only touchdown of the half. The final score of the game was 37-7.
The St. Edward Eagles move to 5-1 over Rock Creek Christian who falls to 2-3. Last week, St Eds traveled away to take on Washington Massillon and came home with their first loss of the season. The eagles came into the game versus Rock Creek Christian with a vengeance and the opposing Eagles were unable to answer.
The player of the game is awarded to Marvin Bell for his 3 touchdowns and his ability to be the reliable gear to the St. Edward offense. Next week is a huge game for St. Edward as they take on the St. Ignatius Wildcats on Saturday at 7 while Rock Creek Christian Academy travels out to Chester, Virginia to play Life Christian Academy on Saturday at 7.
