Midview Captures Victory Over Amherst In SWC Battle

The Midview Middies came into the first quarter hot. They received the ball on their own 3 yard line and within 10 plays drove 97 yards for their first touchdown. Leading the charge was quarterback Marc Reed and wide receiver Mason Kucera. The Middies would lead 7-0.

The Comets responded similarly as the Middies took the ball down the field. The Comets ran out of time as they got the ball to the 1 yard line. At the start of the 2nd quarter Bishop Fryson scored a touchdown for the Comets, tying the game 7-7.

The Middies played great defense on the Comets, forcing them to punt the ball away. Shortly after the comets last drive, who other than the Reed and Kucera connection. Reed found Kucera for a 42-yard touchdown making the score 14-7.

Once again, the Comets made their run at the Middies. After the Comets completed two 1st downs, Fryson scored a 29-yard running touchdown. The game was tied up again 14-14. The score would be tied going into the half.

At the start of the half, both teams were playing great defense; not allowing any opportunities to score. Late in the 3rd the Comets found a way as Sophomore wide receiver Oliver Fekete slithered his way through the defense. Fekete scored a 33 yard rushing touchdown, putting the Comets up 21-14. That ended the third quarter.

At the start of the 4th quarter Reed found wide receiver Tyler Reaser for a 42 yard touchdown. The game was tied at 21 with 11:09 left in the game. At this point it was anybody’s game as both teams looked evenly matched.

The Comets fumbled the ball with 8:30 left in the game. This looked like the opportunity the Middies needed to get momentum. A little over a minute later the Middies fumbled the ball with 7:20 left. This was a tug of war game.

After the back and forth in the final quarter Reed put together eight momentum plays. In that eight play stretch Reed picked up 28 rushing yards and 22 passing yards for a total of 50 yards. Reed then got a touchdown, making the score 28-21 with 9.9 seconds left in the game. Reed’s go-ahead touchdown sealed the game. Middies survive the comets 28-21.
