Valley Forge Tops Rocky River 27-7

Valley Forge, looking to avenge their last minute loss in week 2, was in full control the entire game.. This while Rocky River tried to get their 1st win of the 2022 campaign. Rocky River hasn’t lost its home opener since 2010. This is the year that streak ends with Valley Forge topping Rocky River 27-7. Valley Forge moves to 2-1, while the Pirates drop to 0-3.

 

The Valley Forge Patriots started the game receiving the ball from their own 22 yard line. A promising drive would stall on an errant throw that was intercepted by Ryan Ricketti. Rocky River failed to capitalize on the interception, instead going 3 and out.

On the next drive the Patriots would lean on their rushing game going 7 plays 55 yards down the field. That’s where Patriots Junior HB Ben Farson rushed the ball for the final 7 yards for the Patriots touchdown putting Valley Forge up 7-0.

 

Rocky River’s woes on offense continued as the Pirates would go  3 and out again, having to punt for the second time in the first quarter. We finished the first quarter 7-0 Patriots.

 

Valley Forge started the second quarter in control and driving on the Pirates, Dan Kiewel kept the ball for a 2 yard rushing touchdown which put Valley Forge up 14-0.  Valley Forge scored on their next possession as well, set up by a huge 25 yard catch by Daniel Scheffler. Connor Pozniak would push it in from 11 yards out for the TD. Patriots 21 Pirates 0.

 

The third quarter started with a Pirates 3 and out with Patti getting sacked by Shane Warden forcing the Pirates to punt. The Patriots spent the rest of the third quarter grinding the ball on the ground. Dan Kieweil would run for 2 yards for the Patriot touchdown. The 2 point conversion was no good keeping the score at 27-0.

 

The fourth quarter was all Valley Forge, the Patriots held the ball for most of the fourth quarter as well. Dented only by a 2 play 60 yard drive by the Pirates. Patti tossed a bomb to Stan Heuler for the score.

Valley Forge was content to keep it on the ground and wind out the last nine minutes of the game with carries from Farson, Williams, Barnosky and Warden. The Patriots looked poised to add another score to their total but as the last seconds ticked off the clock, the Patriots final drive would bring the clock down to zero.

 

Next week, the 2-1 Valley Forge Patriots return home to face the Bay Village Rockets. Meanwhile, the 0-3 Rocky River Pirates head just down the road to face the Lakewood Rangers.
