Overview:
Last season Bowling green struggled to a 4-8 record due to a lack of experience. Matt McDonald, who started the past two seasons struggled with injury and lack of protection but comes into this season with his best offensive line since joining the team. At running back Terion Stewart was supposed to be the featured back, news broke on the 28th of August that he will not be playing to focus on his health and academic responsibilities. Four sophomore running backs will be incorporated into the offense who are all young and most have playing experience. It is a young group but should be a fun one to watch this season. On Defense they have a lot returning, this group is very experienced and should make it hard on other teams to move the ball on them this year. BG has nine projected starters on both sides of the ball, this is a group that is young but has tons of experience all around, a rare combination.
Dom’s Outlook:
I’ve heard from multiple MAC fans that Bowling Green is a team to watch this year. After doing my research I could not agree more, I am shocked that they aren’t favored more to win the MAC East. McDonald can be a top QB in the conference this season, he has options out wide and tons of RBs to get the ball to. The offensive line unit will be solid compared to last year thanks to a few returners and transfers with experience. The defensive line and linebacker units return everyone from last season. The Defensive back units gain two transfers to help fill a void where there were no returners. BG has a lot of youth on this roster that played last year along with key transfers who can make an impacted this season.
Predictions:
BG is a team that I am a big fan of this season, I could see them beating Kent State and Miami this year. With their non-conference games, they could end up winning only one game against Eastern Michigan, they will compete with Marshall on homecoming night, but it is not a given. I believe the over/under win total for BG is four games this season. This is a team that can win eight games at the absolute best and lose just five games at the very worst. The over looks really good in my opinion.
