Springfield Spartans Lose to Kenmore/Garfield in the First Game of the Season 

Akron, OH– On August 20th, the Springfield Spartans kicked off their away non-conference game against Kenmore/Garfield. The Spartans were restricted to zero points, while Kenmore was able to amass 20. Hundreds of fans supported their teams on the hot and sunny day. The Springfield Spartans possess a 0-1 record to begin the 2022-2023 season. 

Both teams suffered a slow start as neither could put points on the scoreboard by the end of the first quarter. With one minute left in the second quarter, Kenmore put six on the board with a rushing touchdown while missing the PAT for the extra point. The halftime score read 0-6. By the third quarter, Garfield scored another touchdown with 5:12 left in the quarter but missed the extra point kick yet again. 

The fourth quarter started well for Kenmore as they scored a rushing touchdown and completed the two-point rush bringing the score to 0-20. 

The Spartans will now play St. John next week in their first home non-conference game, and Kenmore will travel to Norton for their next matchup.
