BW Men’s Lacrosse Claims Second Straight OAC Regular Season Title with Victory Over Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men’s lacrosse team became Ohio Athletic Conference regular season champions for the second consecutive season with a victory over OAC foe Ohio Northern University. The Yellow Jackets claimed a 9-6 victory on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW Leaders (13-3, 9-0)

  • Junior midfielder Jake Branton (Marysville) led the team with a career-best three goals.
  • Junior All-OAC midfielder Kyler Byerly (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) added two goals and an assist.
  • Sophomore All-OAC midfielder Jake Nanosky (Medina) led the team with four assists
  • Junior All-OAC goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) made eight saves.
  • BW went undefeated in the OAC for the second straight season.

Ohio Northern Leaders (11-4, 7-2 OAC)

  • Alex Reimer and Ben Gawronski both led the team with two goals each.
  • Cole Zaferakis led with six saves.

1st Quarter (Ohio Northern, 2-0)

  • 6:45 Reimer gets on the board first with an unassisted goal. (ONU 1-0)
  • 2:12 Reimer gets his second of the quarter off an assist from Riley O’Neal. (ONU 2-0) 

2nd Quarter (Ohio Northern, 4-3)

  • 9:54 Byerly gets the Yellow Jackets on the board with an unassisted goal. (ONU 2-1)
  • 8:47 Gawronski responds with a quick unassisted goal for the Polar Bears. (ONU 3-1)
  • 5:21 Nate Jablonski extends the Ohio Northern lead with an unassisted goal. (ONU 4-1)
  • 3:10 Junior midfielder Olin Ferguson (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington) scores off a feed from Nanosky. (ONU 4-2)
  • 0:04 Freshman attacker Jake Schorling (Westerville/Central) nets the goal with the clock running down off another feed from Nanosky. (ONU 4-3)

3rd Quarter (BW, 6-5)

  • 12:26 Byerly ties up the game off a dish from Nanosky. (Tied 4-4)
  • 11:36 Junior All-OAC midfielder Jonas Aquilla (Westlake/St. Edward) gives BW the lead with an unassisted goal. (BW 5-4)
  • 6:19 Branton gets his first of the game and extends the lead with an unassisted goal. (BW 6-4).
  • 3:47 Gawronski gets his second goal of the game off an assist from Sebastian Michaud. (BW 6-5)

4th Quarter (BW, 9-6)

  • 8:51 Branton gets his second goal of the evening, unassisted. (BW 7-5)
  • 5:06 Aidan Dempsey scores the last goal for the Polar Bears off a John Lynn assist. (BW 7-6)
  • 3:34 Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC defender Neil Randall (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Palos Verdes) gets his first goal of the game off another Nanosky assist. (BW 8-6)
  • 2:40 Branton scores the final goal of the game off a Byerly assist. (BW 9-6)

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, May 4 as the No. 1 seed in the OAC Tournament. BW will host a semifinal game at 7:00 p.m. on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.
