On Tuesday, April 5th, the Boys Varsity Baseball Team hosted their first home game with a conference game with Nordonia High School.
The Bears defeated the Knights 3 to 2.
The weather allowed the Bears to play thier second game of the season.
The game was a battle between two outstanding pitchers. Neither team scored for the first four innings.
In the fifth inning, the Knights were able scored two runs on a hit batter, a walk, a Bears error and a bunt single.
The Bears came back in the sixth inning. Cody Miller started with double to left field and advanced to third on a passed ball. Joey Escano walked. Alex Trivonovich came into the game to run for Escano. Chris Domke walked to load the bases with one out. Andrew Kortan walked and Miller scored. The game winning hit came when Jake Michalak double to deep center field and Trivonovich and Domke scored. Bears led 3 – 2.
The Bears shut down the Knights in the top of the seventh and won 3 – 2.
The Bears had an outstanding performance by the starting pitcher Gavin Jones. Gavin pitched five strong innings with 9 strikeouts. Gavin only gave up a single and a walk and 2 unearned runs.
Jake Michalak came in to pitch in the six inning and finished the game. Jake also had a strong two innings with 3 strikeouts, no hits and no runs. .
The Boys Varsity Baseball Team record is now at 2 win and 0 losses. Come cheer them on as they host Brunswick High School on Thursday, April 7th at 5:00 PM.
