AMHERST, OH – Freshman sensation Jayla Cruz had 8 while sophomore All Star Kristen Kelley poured in 21 as the Comets rolled all over the Valley Forge Comets in a 46-16 postseason win.  Amherst showed again today just how good they can be when they put it all together.  This is a team not to be taken lightly at tournament time, which is right now.

The Comets will now go on to face SWC Rival North Ridgeville this Thursday night.  A game Kee On Sports will be on the call of. It’s not too late to be a sponsor for that game which will be heard by thousands live all over the state.

Also scoring was Kylie Kimmich and Peyton Roberts with 1 each, while Kayla Ferancy had 4, Natalie “The Nazz” Pleban had 6, Jocelyn George 2 and Bradyn Silvasy with 3.

Coyne would hit a quick three to give the Patriots an early lead just moments into the game.  From there Kristen Kelley would follow her own miss to get a put back basketball and make it 3-2.  This was all 30 seconds into the game, then both teams went ice cold and no one scored for nearly 4 more minutes until Valley Forge got their next bucket to make it 5-2.

At that point, it seemed like Valley Forge might actually give Amherst one heck of a game, but it was anything but the case as the Comets finally hit their stride and got cooking. The Patriots wouldn’t score again in the quarter as the Comets went on to score the next 7 and take a 9-5 lead into the second quarter.  6 of those 7 coming from Kristen Kelley who finished with 8 of their 9 in the quarter.

Up four to begin the second quarter, the Comets began to pour it on and make some distance between the two squads. A big reason why the Comets met with such success in the second quarter was a commanding defense the held Valley Forge to 0 points until there was only 3:37 left to go in the half.

Valley Forge kept trying to run a motion offense every single time down the court, but it was not working.  Time after time the assistant coach would yell over the head coach, “motion, motion” but no one moved.

Meanwhile, the Comets sprinted out with an 8-1 run during that stretch with buckets from Cruz, Ferancy, Pleban, Kelley and Silvasy.  The Comets would take a 22-11 lead into the break and then cruise from there for the 46-16 win.

  1. Proud of our comet girls . They got the victory the girls played extremely hard . Not to take anything away from them and the win but they should win this game . The real test will be is how they play vs Ridgeville and if that coach can adjust . Our coach hasn’t done that so I’m not sure it will make a difference . I have watched him get out coached all year long . Let’s go lady comets !

  2. So very proud of my grandbabie Jayla Cruz she works so hard in all her sports give it a 100 percent can’t wait for what ahead of her life.
