Fairview tops Elyria Catholic, 72-62, on Senior Night

Fairview Park, Ohio – It was a Senior Night to remember for the host Fairview Warriors, who topped visiting Elyria Catholic, 72-62, Friday night.

In a back-and-forth first quarter, Fairview emerged leading 18-12. Senior guard Alex Younkin had seven points in the first, and Danny Hanton chipped in six.

The second quarter belonged to the Elyria Catholic Panthers, as they made their move to take the lead.

In the stanza, the Panthers hit four three-pointers. Two of them came from senior forward Jack Kenneally. Denny Fischer and Robert Palmer Jr. each hit one as well.

Elyria Catholic led by as much as 32-26 before Fairview went on a 7-0 run, capped by a layup by Danny Hanton.

Thomas Niederst countered with a layup of his own and Elyria Catholic went into the half up 34-33.

The third quarter was a back and forth affair between both teams.

Elyria Catholic would hit a basket, and Fairview would respond. It would be a back and forth affair throughout the quarter until Sean McNamara hit a three to give the Warriors a 48-45 lead late in the third.

His teammates, Tyler Holliday and Jacob Rehor would each hit a triple, and the Warriors’ lead swelled to 54-45 with 1:33 left in the third.

The Warriors would end the quarter up 56-48, thanks to the 11-3 run sparked by the aforementioned long distance connections, plus a layup by Tyler Holliday. He had ten points in the third after a quiet first half.

The Panthers would stay in the game, thanks to buckets from Jack Kenneally, and his brother, Colin. The younger Kenneally had eight points in each half for 16 on the game.

Elyria Catholic would trim their deficit to 60-55 before the Warriors pulled away with timely baskets and free throws.

The Warriors would hang on for the win. As a result, they clinched a share of the GLC West division title. They were led by senior Danny Hanton, who had 18 points. Senior guard Alex Younkin had 16, and Tyler Holliday added 15.

Fairview (14-4) (8-2 GLC West) hosts Holy Name Tuesday evening in the opening round of the Great Lakes Conference tournament.

Elyria Catholic (11-7) (6-4 GLC West) hosts Normandy Tuesday evening in the placement round of the Great Lakes Conference tournament.

They were led by senior forward Jack Kenneally’s 24 points, followed by junior Colin Kenneally’s 16. Junior guard Thomas Niederst added 12 for the Panthers.
