Streetsboro, Ohio – Senior forward Ryan Mueller scored 20 points to lead Gilmour Academy to a 44-33 victory over Streetsboro Tuesday night.
The Lancers started the first quarter out hot, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Ryan Mueller and Brandon Rose each had four points to kick-start the Gilmour offense.
On the defensive side, the Gilmour zone defense forced turnover after turnover from the Rockets. They forced 13 TOs in the first half.
At the end of the first, Gilmour led 15-6. They increased their lead to 20-6 before Streetsboro started to rally.
Streetsboro senior forward Devin Reese came into Tuesday’s game needing eight points to reach 1,000 for his career. After a scoreless first quarter, he reached the milestone in the second quarter thanks to a three-pointer from the right corner. Reese ended up with 15 points on the evening.
This jump-started the Rockets’ momentum, as they would go on a 10-3 run to cut their deficit to 23-16 going into the halftime break.
The third quarter belonged to the defenses, as both teams forced several turnovers. Streetsboro would further cut their deficit to 25-22 with 1:47 left in the third quarter.
Gilmour would snatch the momentum right back.
Junior guard Adisa Molton hit a pair of free throws, and Ryan Mueller capped the quarter with a three from the left corner.
These two plays made the score 30-22 Gilmour Academy going into the fourth quarter.
The Lancers would then pad their lead further, increasing it to 40-26 with 3:41 to play. Dorjan Flowers, Ryan Mueller, Brandon Rose, and Adisa Molton each scored.
From there, the Lancers hung on for the wire-to-wire win.
Gilmour Academy (14-2) travels to Walsh Jesuit for a non-conference contest Friday night. In addition to the 20 points from Mueller, junior guard Brandon Rose added 11 for the Lancers. Junior guard Adisa Molton had nine, and Dorjan Flowers had four.
Streetsboro (10-5) hosts Kent Roosevelt Wednesday night in another non-conference contest.
